pop mail suddenly stopped working
I have been using yahoo.de for ages and it always worked using POP mail setting. I recently updated my contact info on the 3 Yahoo accounts I have (2 yahoo.de and 1 yahoo.com) but afterwards 2 of the accounts (both yahoo.de) will not access account via POP and comes up with this message:
Sending of password for user ******@yahoo.de did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: (#MBR1240) Please verify your account by going to https://login.yahoo.com
The third account which is yahoo.com is not affected and still works with POP (and all accounts can still be accessed as Webmail.)
I checked all the settings on the yahoo.de accounts and they are totally correct but they just will not work with POP any more. very strange and just can not solve this! there is an error code (#MBR1240) but no idea what it means.

Hello please let me know what change you made that you suspect brought this about. I just need to get a clear picture of what you are facing.

OK thanks, well al I did was update some email and phone contact numbers if confirmation is needed-You know, the alternative emails and mobile numbers for security, if you log on from another country, and they send you an email or access code to mobile telephone.
In fact I think this may possibly be part of the problem I do travel a lot and logged in from different country.
Initially webmail was blocked, but I answered security questions and had confirmation code sent to mobile phone..
After that the Thunderbird POP mail usually works again. But not this time it seems.
Actually I noticed after I tried to login via pop mail on Thunderbird I sometimes receive message on alternative email saying that unauthorised attempt has been made to access the mail.
As I said very strange because webmail works Ok, but for some reason the two Yahoo.de accounts just will not access POP mail although all the settings are correct and the same as the Yahoo.com which is still working with POP as before. So I am thinking it has to do with access from abroad, but as I said previously it worked fine, it is just after updating email/phone details the problem seems to have started.
re :Sending of password for user ******@yahoo.de did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: (#MBR1240) Please verify your account by going to https://login.yahoo.com
I presume you did this.
re but for some reason the two Yahoo.de accounts just will not access POP mail Can you check something and report back.
You have two Yahoo.de accounts, but how many Outgoing SMTP servers for Yahoo.de do you have?
Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server SMTP
You should have two, one for each yahoo.de mail account. If you only have one then use the 'Add' button to create another. Where the User Name and password for the mail account is also the same UserName and password used by it's selected SMTP server, even though all the actual server details will be the same. You can use the 'Description' section to help you identify which is which as it is not used by server. You could type eg: Personal or Business or even the first part of the email address - the bit before the @. then make sure each mail account is using the SMTP server with correct User name and password. Tools > Account Settings select mail account name look bottom right for the Ougoing Server(SMTP), select from drop down box the correct one for that mail account.
Once you have done the changes for the SMTP server, check to see if you can send an email.
re ; it is just after updating email/phone details. al I did was update some email and phone contact numbers. the phone numbers should not have affected anything. But what exactly did you change for the email part. Did you change anything like password?

yes of course as I said login via web is no problem
>did you change for the email part. Did you change anything like >password?
no password is the same and can log in via webmail as I said

Yes I checked those there are several listed tried them all no dice :-( and outgoing is not the only problem as I said, cant log on at all so no incoming either.
It is the weirdest thing I ever saw everything seems correct ports (995 for incoming , 465 for smtp outgoing), password, etc the damn thing just will not work!!!

To be pedantic, but did you click the link to login via the web, yahoo are trying to tell you something. Probably about your account being accessed from some international location other than the one they think you should be in. Until you clear whatever it is they will prevent access vai pop or IMAP.
well yeah that is what I said, I logged in from another country.
But normally if you log in from another country, you are asked to confirm your ID via Mobile code which I did. After that I could access webmail account again. This normally also solves the Pop mail problem, but not this time and can not figure out why!

another thing I just noticed in the message to alternative mail re unauthorised access it mentioned this :
>If this login attempt has been made by you, please create an app-specific >password, because you have the second logon check is activated.
I expect this has to do with the problem although I have no clue what they are talking about... that second log in check what the hell is all that about?

Read section Second sign-in verification as this may explain your situation.
yeah, actually figured out a couple of days ago that's what the problem was. One had to add a one-time password to the application that one was using in this case Thunderbird. Can't recall actually activating second Password option so maybe they did it automatically, I don't know but anyway it's a bloody pain in the ass, which complicates matters so I just did the easy thing and turned the damn thing off. So mail was working again- at least as far as receiving was concerned then more problems thank you bloody Yahoo or Thunderbird whoever is responsible! After that could not send mails although all the ports were correct and other settings. Anyway after clicking several times on Send a couple of mails actually were sent off and then next day it started working better and now it's back to normal thank Christ - but a load of messing around and more hours of my life wasted. I wish these bloody people would get their act sorted out, one shouldn't have to go through all that crap just to send and receive emails!
