Can't access Google docs after adjusting privacy settings
I've suddenly lost access to my Google docs. Every time I try to access a doc. I get flipped to Google's 'Clear cache and settings' page. It doesn't help to click the tracking protection shield in Firefox because I'm no longer on the Google docs site, but rather their support site.
How can I manually add Google docs to my list of sites where tracking protections are disabled? When I try clicking "manage permissions" in Preferences: Privacy & Security in Firefox (latest Mac release, MacOS v. 10.12.6), it goes into 'beachball' mode and I have to force quit Firefox to proceed. Please help!

Try to clear the Site Preferences via "History -> Clear Recent History".

Did you go back to defaults as it seems the changes made are causing the problem. Sounds like without tracking you can't access google apps.

Where would I do this? Would it be limited to the privacy settings, or revert everything I've customized in Firefox since I started using it countless years ago?
And what's the story with the Manage Permissions button?
Your going to have to change it back setting by settings to see what is blocking the access there. If you been making changes you should be able to go and see what those changes are doing.

I see how to do that. Do I clear just the cookies and cache? What do the 2 Data options mean: site preferences and offline website data? Are those also potentially relevant?
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data.
If you only want to reset the permissions then you can delete permissions.sqlite in the profile folder with Firefox closed. That way you keep other site specific settings that are stored in content-prefs.sqlite.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
