I need to hook up a WD Elements portable hard drive and Firefox won't let me...any thoughts
I went to the WE Elements support page for my 250GB WD Elements portable HD and in one of the side bars it mentions on updates there are incompatibility problems with Firefox and Internet Explorer and suggests that I need to downgrade to a lower version of Firefox. Is there anyway of avoiding doing this and getting my back up drive to work?

A portable HD is merely a storage device i.e. to transfer data from your internal HD to the portable one. Firefox is not involved in that operation since it's only a browser.
The installation guide is also in PDF format, so you can configure Adobe Reader to open the file outside the browser, so that's not a problem either.
Where did you see this info about FF being incompatible? On here somewhere? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=480
On the www.wdc.com website on the top corner under Latest Support News and Updates it scrolls through a bunch of things and one is the Internet 9 and Firefox 4 incompatibility with WD Community
This - http://community.wdc.com/t5/News-Announcements/Internet-Explorer-9-and-Firefox-4-issues-with-WD-Community/td-p/178832 - has nothing to do with whether that external drive will work on your PC or not, it only has to do with being able to use the WD Community message boards with IE9 and Firefox 4.
Just use IE 7 or 8 when you need to use those message boards; IE9 isn't available for WinXP anyways.
