Real Player Browser Download Plugin button in Firefox 10 stopped appearing on videos.
The Real Player Browser Download Record Plugin 15.0.1 in Firefox 10 stopped appearing on all videos. It was working from 1/31 to 2/3 and now doesn't show at all. A clean reinstall of Real Player 15 Plus doesn't fix this. OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. As usual after a F.F. upgrade, the download button works on Internet Explorer. Now it's the weekend and Real's Developers aren't even working! The Developers of both companies need to coordinate this once and for all. Norton started doing this with Mozilla at my suggestion for the Norton Tool Bar and there no longer is any delay in compatibility. Please contact Real Player tech support to complain. Their Case Manager told me that the three week compatibility delay with Real Player 14 last year would never happen again. I wouldn't bet on it.
Update Note: This thread is now also about "Adobe Flash 11.3 doesn't load video content" because people having that problem started posting here.

Hey, guys. I have good news on the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin compatibility with Firefox 10.0. It's fixed, as of two days ago but tech support wasn't informed properly. Yesterday, 2/8 I tried to check for updates and there was one and it fixed the compatibility problem. Here's what to do. Click on the RealPlayer button in the upper left corner of RealPlayer and on the menu that opens, click on "Check for Updates". You should see an update checked for the same "15.0" but when you run the update it should say it's now reading "15.0.2". If the download button still doesn't appear, I think I had to then open the Firefox Addons folder, click on "extensions"and enable the Plugin extension by simply clicking the "enable" button which should now be available. Then just restart Firefox and it should work. Let me know if you're still having any problem with it.

I had firefox 12.0, Real Player 15.0 and adobe flash plug-in 11.3 all fine, then firefox 13 installed resulting in no video , just a white screen. Uninstalled real Player, disabled plug-in in firefox as seemed to be firefox advice. Everything OK except no download button. Re-installed real player 15.0 and enabled plug-in. Uninstalled adobe flash 11.3, re-installed adobe flash 10.3 and everything now OK Will need to keep a look out for whne safe to upgrade adobe flash
Hi CheckMate, I just received another Flash Update window popup. Could you please investigate to see if this is a good one. Thanks so much again for your help. Amy
Hi.Amy,
I just checked a post on the FF forum where they're testing the update (same one, 11.3.300.262) and there's no reduction in crashes, and again that's not designed to fix the video viewing problems. They can't even fix the crash issues with this update. Nothing new on Adobe's site either.
That last step to delete the extra files and folders is not normally necessary when uninstalling Adobe Flash.
mamabrumble59 said she's "chicken" right now to try any new update - and a good thing, too!
Couple of days ago I left a comment on Adobe's site, giving them a piece of my mind. Yesterday I saw it was gone. Guess they didn't like the piece I gave them Ha,Ha! But last week I asked RealPlayer's Case Manager if he could suggest to the Developers that they coordinate this with Mozilla and Adobe and he said "Of course!" And Adobe said last week they're coordinating with Mozilla so this doesn't happen in the future. So maybe the poor beta testing and lack of coordination taught everybody a lesson. We'll see. This big business and the longer this goes on the more customers they lose.
What you said about checking the other browsers because the problems often are only with Firefox....I asked the Case Manager about that (he uses FF) but he didn't know. I'm curious also.
One of the major differences with FF is the ability to use thousands of add ons. But I don't know if that's the reason.

Thank you Checkmate for watching out for us.Yes I am still chicken to update and since everything is working perfectly (why they always break things when they are fine is beyond me) I do not intend to update until I see you tell us collectively that it is safe to do so. You left me with a smile and thanks to your earlier advise a computer that works the way it should, until the next ...Laura
Hi, Laura
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you're still "chicken" to do any updates right now and that I left you with a smile.
The 11.3 udpate was supposed to fix known security vunerabilities. But the pre beta testing of it sure raises a lot of questions. Yes of course I'll let everyone know when there's a reliable fixed version.

Hi Julian, I was going to take a snap shot of the Flash Update window pop up but instead I went into Adobe website to look for Release notes. I lost the window. The wording in this window was different from the one I got on June 21, that is why I thought it was a different one. I went searching all over the place to see if there was anything about a new update today and could not find it either. I also tried to post on the Adobe forum to ask about the update and it would not let me post even though I am registered.Weird. Don't get me wrong. I love Firefox and I have been a user since day one. Before I was a little experienced with the computer world, I would freak out if anything went wrong and I always thought it was my computer or that I had a bug. Unbeknownst to me the problem was usually due to the browser. Back then I was using Nestscape. Then Firefox came on to replace it. Firefox has had its problems on and off but it is still my favorite browser. It still eats my memory even though I have a brand new computer with 2 gigs of ram. But now I check with Chrome and IE, which I hate, before I think something is wrong with my computer. As a matter of fact, I am writing this from Chrome. Since the Flash event I have been having problems getting into the forum through Firefox. It takes forever to load or it does not load at all. I really appreciate you keeping us posted. Thanks so much for doing this for all of us.
Amy
HI Amy,
Yeah, Adobe's weird all right. One thing about the memory, though. Firefox has made great reduction in memory usage starting with FF 7 with MemShrink which is a special program they've been working on. I've seen dramatic improvements and I've read more than once that it beats Chrome on memory. If you think it's eating up a lot of memory, it might be just explained by having 2 gigs of ram, but that doesn't mean that you necessarily need more.. I don't know if that would effect the slowdown of getting on the forum but it might. Memory's really cheap these days if you ever wanted to add any.
Sometimes slowdowns can be caused by temporary files building up, or they can just cause a hiccup somewhere. Try cleaning them and the browser cache and cookies.
But why only is it only Firefox with the forum loading problem?.. If it's only Firefox it's not a memory usage problem unless you have a ton of add - ons You might try reinstalling it - but leave that checkbox unchecked to delete your preferences so it doesn't uninstall all your settings and preferences and boolmarks.Or resetting it or sometimes a complete clean uninstall and reinstall - but make sure you back up your bookmarks if you uninstall it completely. All these ways have helped sometimes. That shouldn't be happening with the forum access. I'm not having any delays so you should try to troubleshoot that.
Julian

Hi Amy,
I forgot to mention one more thing on the slowdown access to the forums. Is there any other slowdown with Firefox? If you have a lot of tabs open that can cause a slowdown and if you do, do you know about the new feature (starting with FF 12) of "Tabs On Demand"? It's a great feature and only Firefox has it.
You can set FF whenever it starts to only load tabs as you need them again. So when it starts, you could have 30 tabs open but only one will load at first. Then the others load, but only when you click on them. This enables Firefox to start much faster. And if you have a lot of tabs open it knocks Chrome out of the park on start or restart speed because even with Chrome's faster start speeds it doesn't have this feature so it has to load ALL the tabs again each time!
Tabs On Demand 1- Click on Tools 2-Click Options 3- Click the General Tab 4- Check the box that says" Don't load tabs until selected".

Hi Julian,
Thanks for the advice. I have had 2 extra gigs of ram sitting on my desk for over a month now. Just a little afraid to open the computer to add it, even though I did it in my old computer.I do a disk cleanup everyday before I close the computer. The cache and cookies I just did and it seemed to help.It is mostly in the Firefox forum but I am in it right now.It loaded pretty quickly. In my extensions I have five items one of them is the disabled Flash Browsing plugin. In the plugins I have 16 items.I got a new computer because my other computer was old and I was tired of getting Norton's little popup window telling me about high CPU and memory Usage by Firefox, by the plugin container, by whatever else . Now I am getting the same in this computer.I always close my tabs to a minimum of two or three at the most.My Tab on Demand is set out like you said already. Firefox stars pretty quickly. It is mainly the forum, specially if I have Notifications on my mail from you and I click on the link to get to the forum to reply. It seems to be working OK right now. I have the Task Manger open and Firefox is using the most at 195,156K. Thank you again for all of your help. I can't wait for the Adobe people to do a correct update for the Flash Player. Amy
I followed others advise on here, and downgraded my flash back to 10.3, since it was more stable than 11.2. After doing this, my RealPlayer Record Button returned. However, I cannot use the Realplayer Converter, it keeps saying I need to install flash before I can play .flv videos (thus no conversion). Everything, used to work so well, then all the updates and now mayhem. My question is how do I get back the video conversion ability?
thanks
just checking in Julian and wanted to let you know I am not having any problems what so ever , my computer hums at a speed I am happy with , my realplayer works like a charm and I have not had a crash since rolling back, which makes me believe that even before the big update fiasco I was having a problem with flash.I would be content as pie if things stayed this serine ahh but you and I both know that would be far to much to ask LOL , have an excellent day/ Laura
Hello, is your realplayer converter working though?
please post the steps you did. thanks.
hello wgo8 please understand I am a very green beginner when it comes to computers so I follow what Checkmate/ Julian advises very closely. I had tried to uninstall and then install to flash 10 but being that I am so green I just screwed everything up, at that point I did a system restore for the week prior to the updates which took me back to flash 11.2 and at this stage everything works like a charm, all my video's download and store I don't use the real player to play my videos I prefer the Gomplayer and all my video's transferred perfectly I have not had a crash or a freeze since I rolled back and I am not updating a thing until I get the nod from Julian. I do hope this helps in some way/ Laura
@wg08
Hi wg08,
I just tested the converter and it's working perfectly with the 10.3 so let's see what's wrong. Are you able to see videos but you're not able to use the converter and you only get that message when you're trying to use the converter? Or you can't see videos at all. I'm assuming you can see them or you wouldn't have gotten the download button back.
When you reverted back to the 10.3 did you first uninstall the 11.2 using the Adobe uninstaller? I'll give you the link to the uninstaller and the 10.3 direct link (not from their archives which is trickier) and the instructions. If you did that, try the following.....
Check for updates in RealPlayer. There was one on the 27th.
Click on the RealPlayer button in the upper left corner. Click on Check For Updates. You should see a pre checked check box don't check the other boxes) Click on where it says Install on the bottom. Restart your computer. Click on the RealPlayer button and then click on Help and then About RealPlayer. It should be reading version 15.05.109
If that doesn't work, uninstall RealPlayer, restart computer, and reinstall it.
Here's the link to the page "How to revert to a previous version of Flash Player"
[url=http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1022066]How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?/url
Click on "How to do a clean install of Falsh Player" for the uninstaller. You can ignore Step 4 (delete the extra files and folders). Then click on the highlighted 10.3 and then on the page that appears, click on the version "for other browsers" - that's for Firefox.
Then click on the 10.3 for Internet Explorer , right above it. You have to add that back too, because the Uninstaller uninstalls it too. Let us know how you make out.

@mamabrundle59,
Hi Laura,
Thanks so much. Glad I could help . This is also a test of the light type problem you may have noticed I'm having .

Hello CheckMate, thank you for offering to help. Here is what I have done so far and the problem I am experiencing.
- 1. I had the issues with Flash, Firefox and Realplayer.
- 2. I used the flash unistaller and removed Flash 11.3.
- 3. I installed flash 10.3 from the Firefox issues with Flash 11.3 support article - http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes.
- 4. Firefox and Flash started working and the RealPlayer Plugin Download Button came back and I can download videos.
- 5. However, I cannot play videos on RealPlayer, nor use the converter. I receive a message that I need Flash player for Internet Explorer to use Real Player. I clicked on download upgrade and more information, but nothing happens. So I uninstalled Realplayer using Revo Unistaller, to make sure nothing is left behind, and then deleted the real folder in program files.
- 6. I opened Internet Explorer (shudders) and I went on the Adobe download archives and downloaded flash 10.3, 6-8-12, release, zip file.
- 7. I extracted the files, and there were 3 applications, one for win.exe, winsa.exe and winax.exe. I chose the plain win.exe and installed.
8.It told me the installation was successful and I can play Youtube videos on Internet Explorer, but RealPlayer is still not recognizing the flash. 9. Before all this, my realplayer played videos, the converter worked, the download plug in worked, firefox, flash etc. all worked.
@wg08.,
Hi wg08,
I think I've got a clue from what you said. I think I know what you did wrong- that article doesn't clarify one point.. The proof is that you still needed the one for Internet Explorer and the zip you chose, the simple win.exe is NOT for Internet Explorer. If you look on the link to the page I posted, "How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player" you'll see the instructions for the zip files clearly says that it's the winax version that's for Internet Explorer! No wonder it's not working, you never installed it! . The zip file one for win.exe I think is for Firefox because it's for windows, meaning other browsers . Forget that support article (It only refers to the 'How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player" for the 11.2 zip files.) and start over because it's unclear what you installed. That article only refers to the plugin version of 10.3 for Firefox and doesn't explain how to install the 10.3 version for Internet Explorer, or that you still need to, but you'll see see it on the same page as the direct link to the plugin version for FF (for other browsers). I gave you the same link to the same page. You probably installed the Firefox plugin correctly but when you run the uninstaller again, it will uninstall both versions so just start over. Don't mess with the zip files because you don't need to. Click on the link I provided to the page "How to revert to previous version of Flash Player." and follow my instructions exactly. Just so it's clear, after you uninstall again,(you don't need to follow step 4, to delete the extra files and folders) the link I provided opens the "How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player". Click on the highlighted link to the 10.3. It's a link to the page where there's a direct link to it - no zip files. On the page that opens, look for one version for Internet Explorer and the other version will say "for other browsers" - that 's the one for Firefox. Install each one, and restart your computer. When you're finished, you can check the versions by going to the Control Panel and click on Uninstall Programs ( You're not gonna uninstall anything). Look for Adobe Flash Player and the version on the right. You should see one 10.3 that says plugin ( that's the FF one) and one version that says Active X ( that's for IE). You're done, Now see if RealPlayer and the converter are working properly. They really should be, now. I don't know how you're able to see videos on IE if you apparently over- installed the 10.3 zip file win.exe over the direct link plugin without ever installing the Active X version, but it doesn't matter. Perhaps it's only partially functioning in IE which is why you got that message. How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?

One more thing. Be careful with Revo. I've had one or two problems with it and learned that it's not meant to be used unless you can't uninstall a program the normal way. Sometimes it can remove something that it's not supposed to,despite what they say, although it was the only thing that fixed a complicated problem for a friend of mine.
Modified
Can you check in control panel / uninstall a program , you should have 2 entries for adobe flash - plugin and activex, it is plugin (used by firefox) that needs to be 10.3 (or 11.2) the activex (used by IE) can be 11.3
This an outdated firefox 10 thread, the current firefox 13 / real player 15 / adobe flash 11.3 thread is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/929836#answer-348654
why did these companies update and not correlate with each other? Although adobe seems to be at fault here I don't think any of the browsers should perform any big update without working with the plug ins most popular with the clientele Firefox boasts about being fast with multiple plug ins well all of us have gone through repeated nightmares over simple updates that could have been avoided with simple quality control. If I wasn't afraid of all the smut that overloads my computer with both chrome and especially internet explorer I very well may have moved on to another browser. I know you said you could help me with that Julian but from the research I have done Firefox also seems to have the best protection overall for basic users such as lil'ole me.I just don't think even now they have learned anything from this chaos. Sad but what I believe is this will be happening again in three months time.
