On my wife's computer is a IMAP Email account. Cox moved our servers to Yahoo. Since then filter rules are set in Thunderbird, but they don't work on her computer. I have tried setting filter rules to work before or after determining as junk and deleting those listed in filter rules. I would prefer to see all junk deleted at the server level before reaching her computer, but that's not an option like it was with Cox Email. This works OK in my POP account, but on her IMAP account it creates a second JUNK subfolder under TRASH and lists all the spam that agrees with my filter rules. Nothing gets deleted. The filter rules have been changed to filter the JUNK folder instead of the INBOX and delete those files, but that doesn't happen! I have to move all the spam in the JUNK subfolder to the regular JUNK folder, then run each set of filter rules individually to move into trash. I can then delete the JUNK subfolder but it is automatically recreated.
I know we must use EITHER Filter Rules or Spam Assassin, but not both. I want to get rid of Spam Assassin because it looks like it's creating the problem, but I see no way to do that. Unchecking Spam Assassin in filter rules does nothing. In any case, I need a solution. Jim

I have a domain for a business and web hosting. Email accounts come with the hosting and I set up several. At some point, I began to get pop-ups asking for my logon credentials. Although they were annoying, I put up with them for a time. I thought a password problem might be causing it, so I changed the password and made sure it was the same both on the server and in Thunderbird. Eventually, this situation became more than a nuisance and (after saving the messages off-line) I deleted the email account from both Thunderbird and the server. This did not work and I still gat the pop-up messages! I have consulted with the web hosting support staff and they assure me that the account is no longer on the server. Obviously, there is some vestige of the deleted account in Thunderbird someplace and it is causing the program to attempt to sign in to the server to access the no longer existing account. This, in turn, causes the server to request the credentials for the deleted account, resulting in the pop-up messages. How do I get rid of this?

in TB 128.5.0esr catchall identities - *@domain.org - don't seem to work anymore. Well...
I regularly receive email at my catchall address: "Kordin <your-business-name@mydomain.com>"
But my mail host won't let me send from a custom @mydomain.com without setting it up, which is too much hassle.
So I spent a bunch of time a while ago setting up a different mail provider to send from these custom addresses, while still using my primary provider just for my most important addresses.
TB used to use the identity with a specific match for a from address to reply from. Otherwise it would match the *@mydomain.com identity and reply from "What You Called Me <what.address.you.used@mydomain.com>"
Currently it seems to select the wild card identity, but not populate the name. It also no longer displays the warning message that it will use an alternative identity.
I feel sure there's been some regression here, but the TB docco is all over the place.
Can someone please shed some light on this for me?

TB 128.4.3esr on macOS and 102.15.1 on Win10/64.
If I click Save on an attachment to a message, TB dutifully opens a Save dialog box in the folder/directory that I've specified in Settings > Files & Attachments > Save Files To:
No problem there.
But if I double-click on an attachment to open it directly into an application such as Excel, Word, etc., the attachment gets saved and then opened from some mystery folder such as:
<myHDD>/private/var/folders/pd/zw70ypv94xgctzszqtp3fxwr0000gp/T/pid-91611/
on macOS or:
C:\Users\<MyUserName>\AppData\Local\Temp\pid-1568\
on Win10.
Many years ago I remember that attachments were always saved to the Save Files To directory, but that changed some time ago.
Is there a way to change the behavior back, so that attachments always save to Save Files To, regardless of whether they're explicitly Saved from the message or double-clicked/opened from the message?
Thanks!

Hi!
Thunderbird emails stopped 9/11/24. Sadly, I cannot send or receive emails via Thunderbird. When I open Thunderbird on my Mac (2010) updated to version 10.12.6. I receive a message box noting 'Login to account "dolsen00@msn.com" failed'. Log in to server pop-mail.outlook.com with username dolsen00@msn.com failed.
Choices are ENTER new password Cancel Retry
I am not familiar with pop-mail or outlook. I've read through a number of articles hoping to find a solution. I've searched through historical emails from Microsoft to see if I might have mistaken for trash an important change, to no avail.
My current workaround for email is via my iphone or logging into msn.com on my Mac. I miss many of the features Thunderbird offered!
Thank you for your help! Donna O.

Why are there two folders, "junk" and "spam"?
All your help verbiage seems to treat them as one, but the program doesn't We have emails cycle from spam to inbox to spam, and the only way to deal with them is to delete them The inbox decides they are spam (how?) and does it repeatedly regardless of the various attempts to move them back to the inbox. There are no "not spam" action commands. Please get rid of the spam folder (classify everything as junk) or give us some management tools to direct emails to their proper location.

Hello,
I would like to change the icons of the star that are used to show messages as flagged and unflagged.
I have read in some posts that one can replace the icon files, but I cannot find any folder where they are stored. Where are the icon files stored in 128.5 on macOS (Macintosh)?
Is the process for replacing the icons as simple as replacing the icon files?
If you have replaced these icons, would you please tell me about your experience and give me your tips?
Thank you.
Rick

I recently installed Thunderbird on my devices and PC. I used the auto config and it said all was good. But I just found out that none of my email is actually going out. I checked the outgoing settings and they all look good compared to what my provider has listed, but when I finish the manual setting it says it can't connect to port 465 I contacted my provider and they said talk to Thunderbird you have an old version. But it isn't old.
Update: I installed Thunderbird on my new PC with the same settings and it works, but the installed apps on my Android devices don't

Hi there,
I recently switched to Thunderbird to track my multiple email accounts, but it is not letting me select text so I can copy-paste.
Each time I click and drag, it swipes to the next or previous email, depending on if I drag left or right.
I had a look through my settings but cannot find a way to stop it swiping to other emails. Double clicking to select the word and then the whole sentence does not work.
I had a dig through the Help Site but couldn't find a reference to this issue/setting.
How do I stop Thunderbird from swiping between emails so I can select text to copy?
Thanks :)

I have a business domain with four email accounts at GoDaddy on Microsoft Outlook. I have a new laptop (Windows 11); when I set up Thunderbird for the accounts, three came in fine, but one does not connect to the server - the account on TB shows just an "Inbox" with no mail, no other folders. All the settings appear to be identical between the different accounts. What am I missing?

Hello there. I've followed the instructions in the appropriate support article and transferred our Thunderbird profile from a Widows 10 machine to a Windows 11. My profile as a .zip file is larger than the 2GB limit, so I used the Widows Explorer cut and paste. It's likely that I've done something slightly awry as one of my local sub folders hasn't transferred. Otherwise TB works fine. Is it possible to just restore the particular local folder, as I can find both the entries in my mail folder on windows explorer? However the view of the two entries looks rather different on the two computers when I compare a local folder that has transferred. Regards, Arthur
