I use Firefox 6 in my pc where I have an uptodate antivirus program called Webroot Antivirus withSpyware. I recently bought and installed Webroot Complete. When I did that I lost access to Gmail. I did all the steps given in your Firefox help site, such as clearing history and cache, turning off computer and rebooting etc. but I still cannot gain access to GMail using the Firefox browser. I am now using my Mac laptop and Safari browser to communicate with you. Please help. Thank you

I am guessing you will have to tell your anti-virus program to allow access to Gmail.

If you go to Webroot they would be able to help you better at

Tried your suggestion to allow Webroot to access GMail but that did not resolve my problem. So, I decided to remove the Webroot Anti-Virus program from my pc instead. But that did not help restore my access to GMail either. That's when I thought, maybe the conflict was between Google and Firefox 6 since my pc was working well (even with Webroot in it) before I installed the Google desktop upgrade and before I upgraded my browser to Firefox 6.

In exasperation, I uninstalled Google Desktop, cleaned history and cache and restarted my pc. Lo and behold, I was able to gain access to Gmail. Slow at first but speed kind of picked up a bit after some minutes.

An observation: Before I removed Google desktop, the search bar showed http://google.com/mail plus a mile long added letters and numbers and symbols where I noticed the word "fake". No matter how much I tried to remove the excess words, symbols, numbers they kept getting back on the search bar the moment I click the Gmail icon. It's like my pc was being directed to a ghost page because I could see the little circle working and the word "connecting" running on and on and on for such a long time. I was afraid information in my pc was being gathered by some hackers.

Anyway, I will try to reinstall my Webroot Antivirus again and see what happens. In the meantime, maybe someone can solve the conflict existing (if any) between Firefox 6 and Google Desktop. Thank you for your help. Cleofe

p.s. I had no problem accessing GMail using my Mac laptop and Safari browser.

It could have been as simple as an issue with an unknown error slipping into the URL then was stuck in your cache. Each time you tried to go to that page your cached paged kept taking you to the wrong page. The answer might have been as simple as clearing the cache.
