in firefox 38 how do i get the old options box back and NOT a browser page with the commands?
I want to get back the pop up box that opens when I go into TOOLS - OPTIONS and NOT a web browser page. How do I do that?
Chosen solution
The browser.preferences.inContent is no longer supported in Firefox 42 and later, so it is not possible to open a standalone window by setting this pref to false. Bug 1140495 - Remove support for windowed preferences
You can possibly create a button on the Bookmarks Toolbar to the about:preferences page and hold the Shift key and left-click to open the page in a new window.
You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension.
- General UI (1): Open options page (about:preferences) in a window

I am not an MS/Apple-Idiot who likes apps and hidden embedded controls but likes to have a box that opens right up to the control I want without having to open a slow-to-open-and-transfer-to webpage.
The about:preferences page is built into Firefox and works offline, it is not a webpage on a remote server that you have to wait to load.
To whomever is writing the version 42 code, you need to change it back so that the box opens up.
This is support, we work with the Firefox we have today. To request feature changes in future versions of Firefox, you can use this site:
Firefox 42 Options, Tools Page can't make selections
When I select Options under the Tools menu in FF42, the page comes up but I can't make any selections- it's totally unresponsive. Prior versions had the box that worked. I don't care about whether Options are on a webpage tab or a box, I just need them to work. Hate to roll back to Firefox 40 to get it to work.
Hi Rondo123, since that's a different issue, I've replied to your new question here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1092993#answer-803720
