After a clean installation I can set permanent exceptions for "unsafe" websites such as my router; after the next update the checkbox for "permanent" is blind. I have been through this several times now and I really don't understand the strategy behind it.
I use my router (Fritzbox) as a NAS and need to able to access it via internet when away from home. And I want to store my decision that my router is safe ONCE - not again and again when I open Firefox.
I had installed Firefox 64bit; apparently this version does not have the bug. Unfortunately my password manager does not suppurt it.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
