This email is to warn you that I have had my email address penetrated and all my emails and folders deleted. I have since deleted Thunderbird with the following address from my system. I am running Bitdefender Total Security which did not pickup the intrusion. The email address that was hacked is " @xtra.co.nz ". I hope you have a web site that can be used to alert other users. I have no idea how this occurred. I opened Thunderbird in the normal manner to discover the empty shell.

Thanks and regards Bruce

Seriously you think you were hacked because you saw and empty shell. I would guess you have not been hacked, but have encountered one of a couple of scenarios where Thunderbird has either not updated correctly or lost your existing profile folder.

Based in the very little information you have supplied I would guess it is either a corrupt global index that needs deleting or issues with a language pack that causes the interface to not fully load.

Thank you for your reply. I am not an expert with Thunderbird, just a user. As my question and lack of any further information appears to offend you then you should not have answered my query. I will not reply in kind. If this is the quality of reply I should expect then please delete my query.

I am not offended, and I think your response is rather a strange response to being told you were probably not hacked.

I will go away, but be assured that there are known issues where an empty shell loads for some people, usually after an update.

But if you want me to delete everything I can do that as well. I would not recommend it, I would recommend you fix your Thunderbird installation. But apparently you do not want input, you have already made up your mind.
