Firefox on Android froze. (Maybe too much expected with over 100 tabs open!)

Following fixes attempted:

Attempt 1 - close the App through Android then press Firefox icon, but completely failed to load. - Device hung for a few seconds, then white unresponsive screen. The list of Apps from bottom left key overode unresponsive screen and showed an App open named "Mozilla Crash Report". The App closed itself when selected. Rest of phone worked fine, inc Samsung Internet Browser.

Attempt 2 - Settings > Applications > Application Manager > Firefox > "Force Stop". Same load failure when Firefox icon pressed; white screen and Crash Report that closed when selected.

(under Application Manager, Data Usage for Firefox was ~550MB)

Attempt 3 - restart Android. Still Firefox completely failed to load in same way.

Attempt 4 - download latest Firefox APK, uninstall Firefox from "Application Manager", select latest APK for install. After a few seconds, message received "App not installed".

Main objectives 1) have Firefox functioning on my Android 2) recover the tabs open to note the important open ones.

Any suggestions of a fix will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

So I can understand this better and see if a solution is possible, what is the make and model of your Android device?

more options

Hello,

The device runs on a Samsung - Galaxy A3 (2015) with Android 6.0.1

Okay, thanks.

I can certainly make Firefox function on your device, but I cannot guarantee to save the tabs.

  • In the Android Settings app (typically a cogwheel icon), open Applications and find Firefox.
  • Under Storage, clear the cache. (Feel free to do the same for other apps on your device).

It might take a little while to clear but it will reduce right down and hopefully you can open Firefox for Android. If this does not work, clear the data (do not do this for other apps!) - but this will remove the tabs and set Firefox for Android back to "new app" defaults.

I hope this helps - please let us know how this goes.

Many thanks for your suggestions!

I forgot to include in the opening post that the cache was cleared in my early attempt to fix and this did not help.

I resisted clearing data for risk of losing open tabs.

The opportunity to clear data has now disappeared as I had uninstalled firefox to then reinstall the newer apk. Firefox is no longer in the app list, but running the new apk fails to install.

If any other ideas appear, I will willingly try....

Happy New Year to all!

Hi

Have you installed Firefox for Android from Google Play or have you sideloaded the .apk?

more options

Hello,

The APK was sideloaded to try and install Firefox. I avoid Google Play where possible.

Try installing from play store.

If all attempts fail then see if you have enough storage. The last attempt can be resetting your device!

Thanks for suggestions jayzx

After ensuring there is sufficient storage, installing from play store resulted in same problem.

Resetting the device is too extreme for nature and degree of problem; especially as one aim is to retrieve the tabs that were open.

I will wait to see if any other solutions to try surface.

In the meantime I can use the Samsung browser.
