You always see the title of the page that the website sets via the HTML page code on the tab and the title bar if visible and not the name that you set in the bookmark, that name is restricted only to the bookmark.

Is there a way for me to rename the tab and keep it as such...even after I close Firefox and reopen it and repopulate the page with the same saved bookmark? Or, renaming a tab something I have to do every time I populate a page?

You will need an add-on to either modify how Firefox populates the text on tabs, or to "hack" the code of the page by changing its <title> (document.title).

Pages are easy to change using a script, but I don't know whether anyone has created a script that can store all the changes you want for the pages you visit and automate it seamlessly. Some script writers might consider it a fun project to work on, so perhaps request it on this site:

Notes:

  • Because user scripts can be coded to read any page open in any tab and communicate with any website, please be cautious when installing scripts to make sure you can trust them, and ask for opinions if you're not sure

I have TabRenamizer as an add-on, however, when I rename the tab...then save it as a bookmark and open it in another tab it does not populate the new tab with the same name as the one I just changed. Rather, it populates the title of the page with the HTML page code. How can I have the renamed tab displayed in the new tab?

Thanks cor-el...however, that still has not resolved the problem. I removed the old version of TabRenamizer and added the one you suggested. I restarted Firefox, checked to confirm the old version was removed and the new one was added...it was! Then I opened a page, renamed it...saved it to bookmarks...opened a new page and loaded it...Voila...I got "the title of the page that the website sets via the HTML page code on the tab". Any suggestions?? 'Cuz this ain't workin'.

I don't think the extension works by reading your bookmarks. I think you need to set the alternate name using the extension's dialog. Possibly available when you right-click the tab (would be a logical place for it).
