Why can't the update Flash player give me a good download file to be able to update ?
The file I receive when I click to update Flash Player in Firefox addons is: flashplayer_18_gd_install.exe, which will show an unknown publisher, and when I click on it to install, aborts with an initialization error. See attached screen shots.
OS: Windows XP (Pro) Browser Firefox Outdated Flash Player 17.0.0.169 (to be updated) New File being downloaded: lashplayer_18_gd_install.exe ,
Addtl Note: I have noticed I cannot perform some tasks like search, or defrag, or "Manage" because of missing files, but Malwarebytes and AVAST do not detect intrusions at all.

hi, you could try if adobe's offline installers from https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html work instead.
Did not work. Error: file is not a valid Win32 application.
UPDATE: I went back to this download file sometime later, clicked on it, and it installed without any errors. I must have initially tried to install before the download was complete.

this looks like a corruption with your system or the adobe installers, something (malware, security programs) might interfere with your downloads...

Update: I guess I clicked on the download file too soon to install it. I just now went back to the download, clicked on it, and the flash player installed without a problem. Thanks for that link, which I have saved.

NO, Malware not the problem. I used the "adobe distribution" link provided in one of the responses, and it installed ok.
