TB not receiving or sending on my GMail accounts. Will not very passwords for new accounts
Having used TB for many years on various PCs and laptops I am currently experiencing problems. Initially TB failed to send on the second installed GMail account (my wife's) but was OK with mine. Had just set up 2 step verification on Google so thought this might be an issue. Deleted my wife's GMail from TB and set up again. TB could not verify the password Then discovered TB would not send on my GMail account (which had been OK). Switched ff 2 step verification in Google but still same problem. Tried to add new GMail accounts to TB which do not have 2 step verification set but gain passwords (which were def correct) were not accepted. Now just have one Gmail account set up on Tb (mine) but it will not send or receive messages. TB is up to date Version 52.4.0, running on Windows Vista. All G Mail accounts are working fine on other devices (iPhone, iPad & Android phone)

have you enabled "less secure application" in your gmail setting on their web site?
They turn it off every time you do one of those security things unless you are very careful what you select.
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried this but Google says its not appropriate as I have 2 step verification set up. Google says I should use an app password which I tried but that does not work. All these problems have started since I set up 2 step verification.
Two step verification and application passwords are in my opinion a step to far for most users., me included. They are a PITA.
Create a new app password for Thunderbird on Gmail.
Are your accounts IMAP or POP? If they are IMAP you could try changing the authentication method in server settings to oAuth2.0. That side steps the less secure apps option.
Thanks again but have already tried all of this. TB accounts are set to oAuth2 but the app password generated by Google is still not accepted.
You shouldn't need an application-specific password with OAuth2.
