I am no longer able to download mail in my Comcast account. I am able to login via the Comcast website so I know my account info is correct. The error message is as follows:

An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded:

followed by the OK button. so it appears the server is not responding. I have it configured to go to mail.comcast.net with port 110.

I called Comcast and they said they don't support Thunderbird and are moving away from POP3. I tried to configured it for IMAP, but nothing gets downloaded.

Please help.

Jim

Using the non-support of any email client is no excuse for not giving you the correct server settings. Providers configure their servers and if they do not know what to use then maybe they should use Google to find their help page and read them. This is pretty much normal for the help desk idiots that only know how to answer the phone when it make noise.

Here is what is working for me on Comcast. POP Mail.comcast.net port 995 ssl/tls normal password

SMTP smtp.comcast.net port 465 ssl/tls normal password

I changed to those settings. Now I don't get an error message, but I also don't get any mail downloaded either. I removed the password from the saved passwords and I am not getting prompted for the passwords, so it appears I'm not even getting that far.

Close Thunderbird and reboot your computer.

Turns out Avast was blocking the prompt and then the email once I entered the password. See http://support.centennialarts.com/is-avast-blocking-your-email/ for resolution. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
