I added a Yahoo Toolbar to Firefox that was customized for Frontier Communications. I have Ghostery installed as an add-on, and it flashed a message that the Yahoo toolbar interfered with its effective operation and I should either disable or uninstall the toolbar. I opened the Add-ons Manager to do this, and much to my surprise it now showed no extensions at all, yet they all seemed to still be working! All my plug-ins show up when I look at that on the Add-ons Manager. I checked out the "Get add-ons feature, and it tries to load but is not successful. I am running Firefox 10.0.2.

Please also try deleting the extensions.* files in the profile folder after exiting Firefox. Firefox will recreate the files and the information. Please note that at the next startup Firefox may ask for permissions, opening multiple tabs with each tab corresponding to a detected extension. Select Allow the installation, click Continue, but click Restart only on the last tab. You can also try to leave out suspicious add-ons without selecting and Continue. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Firefox Profile Folder & Files

Another way would be to try a new profile. Firefox stores the profile/personal data separately from its installation folder. If the new profile is okay, you can later copy/overwrite the needed files from the old profile into this, eg. the places.sqlite which holds the history + bookmarks information, the bookmarks folder which has the dated backups of just the bookmarks, key3.db + signons.sqlite both of which are needed to successfully restore saved website usernames/passwords etc. Please note that in this case, though copying the extensions is also possible it may be better to install them again via Tools > Add-ons search box or AMO.

Hi,

You can try to Disable all add-ons: in the Firefox Safe Mode startup screen and Make Changes and Restart. This disables all the Extensions in Tools > Add-ons until re-enabled. You can then try to enable all the extensions except the Yahoo toolbar. Hopefully this would restore the previous functionality.

I was able to get rid of the Yahoo Toolbar by selecting the "view recent updates" on the Add-ons Manager. The recent updates listed were the toolbar and McAfee Site Manager and I was given the options to disable or uninstall, so I promptly uninstalled Yahoo Toolbar. I shut down and restarted Firefox and still could not see my extensions, nor could I access "get add-ons" ( just got the little rotating gizmo signifying that it was trying). I restarted Firefox in Safe Mode with add-ons disabled. Still no extension list or access to get add-ons. My wife's Firefox has not been affected by all this. I logged on to her windows session, and everything is still working just fine.

I'm not sure of the latest status, but the McAfee Site Advisor was found to be buggy and leaking memory and causing problems. I think McAfee is working on it. You can try to temporarily Disable it and check. Please also see this.

I disabled McAfee Site Advisor, but it didn't solve my problem. I looked at the Firefox Trouble Shooting Information tab, and it shows that I have zero extensions; however, if I go look at my profile files, they are all still there and they all seem to be working. I still can't contact the website when I go to the "Get Add-ons" tab. I am just about ready to reinstall Firefox in order to solve my problem.

I have the exact same problem you have after mistakenly installing Yahoo Tool bar from the Yahoo Messenger program. I have uninstalled the program, removed the tool bar and used cc cleaner along with registry mechanic yet the problem still exists. I even reinstalled Firefox 10.02 and it did nothing to fix the problem. The add-ons are there just not showing up in the list. Also cannot access "Get-Add-ons" as it just spins with "Loading". If I select "Show recent updates", the recently updated add-ons will show up. Maybe someone can offer a solution. Thanks

hi seasidetrader,

You can try the above suggestions. If it isn't working please start a new thread. A new thread would also help to provide more system details etc.

Thank you Vivek. Your above solution fixed the issue by deleting the extensions.* files in the profiles folder. Thanks again.

Deleting the files in the extensions folder solved the problem. A few extensions did not automatically reload (Ghostery, ReminderFox, Web of Trust, XMarks), but when I reinstalled them, all my settings were intact. Thanks for your help! It would have taken me a LONG time to fix this problem on my own.
