Firefox 12.0 freezes/hangs except in Safe Mode (brand new install, even!)

For some reason, every time I started Firefox (v 11.x) it would freeze up on and off... freeze for 3-5 seconds, then free up for a couple seconds, then freeze up again over and over.

So, I uninstalled Firefox (including all profile info), downloaded Firefox v12.0, and installed it from scratch. When I started it, it did the SAME THING! No add-ins, default profile, etc.

However, when I start it in Safe Mode, it doesn't to it at all - it runs fine.

I also tried starting Firefox where you tell it to reset all everything and restart, and it still misbehaves. It only runs without hesitating when in Safe Mode.

What's up with this?

you might want to try disabling hardware acceleration in options > advanced > general

Well, that is counter-intuitive... Hardware Acceleration slows it down? Seems to not be locking up my machine anymore.

Thanks!

it can cause quite some troubles when the graphics driver is not up to date or contains bugs.

you can also try to update your driver (see Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL) , enable hw-acceleration again & see if firefox works normally afterwards.
