How long does it take to have my data removed?

Removals typically take 7-14 days, but can take as long as two months.

Why do you need my personal information?

The personal information you give us is the same information we search for on data brokers and people search sites. No additional information is stored on Mozilla's servers aside from your email.

How do data brokers and people search sites find my personal info?

Data brokers scrape the Internet for your data without your knowledge. Then they may sell the data to marketers, scammers, and others without your consent.

What can bad actors do with my personal info?

Suppose your personal data is exposed and purchased. In that case, you could be targeted by scammers and spammers. In a worst-case scenario, you could even become a victim of identity theft.

Is data removal guaranteed?

Data removal is not guaranteed, but Kanary's current success rate for removals is high.

Can you remove my information from Google?

No - we can't remove your info from search engines like Google or social media sites like Facebook. We cannot remove your information from pilots where you've signed up for an account or publicly-available information on government websites.

What is a blocked request?

When we cannot proceed with a data removal request it is blocked or put on Hold.

How do I remove my information if Kanary can't?

Expand the tab of the removal item that is On hold. Click the link under Manual removal instructions can be found at.

How can I cancel my pilot?

By canceling your participation in the Data Removal pilot, your data will be deleted from our servers and our partner, Kanary. To opt-out or discontinue the service, visit How do I opt out of Mozilla’s Data Removal pilot?.

What countries can participate in Mozilla’s Data Removal Pilot?

At this time, only users inside of the US can participate in the Data Removal Pilot.
