You need to do liveupdate in Norton to update their toolbar extension for each new major Release of Firefox.

If you do have the latest extension listed make sure it is enabled. If not it can sometimes take several tries in live updates.

About the only good thing with Norton is they usually have a update for their toolbar extension within a day of Firefox release ever since Firefox 5.0

I have the latest Norton internet Security and it is updated and the live update is too.......so I still don't have it in Mozilla Firefox but in my Internet Explorer and some time I change browsers and now I do not have my Norton tool bar in firefox........thanks

I found that not installing the Mozilla maintenance prevents Firefox from updating without permission despite the fact that you might have selected the option in the tools 'advanced' section to not update. Even though you might have checked the option to not update, the maintenance service has a function that allows it to continue working in the background and update automatically in direct contradiction to your tools choice selection. So to everyone, I found the solution that has eluded me for so long now. Uninstall the Firefox that is denying you your toolbar from Norton and install Firefox 30 which contains the last known option to erase all Firefox information and settings by checking the box with that option. Why Firefox got rid of that option I don't know? That option is very useful in erasing Firefox completely so as to install a fresh version. Anyway, once you install Firefox 30 - uninstall it in the control panel add/remove program section and install either Firefox 38 or 39 because these two versions are the most recent and they allow the Norton toolbar to be enabled. After the version you selected gets extracted , you will be presented with two options. To select a standard install, or a custom install. Select custom. You can uncheck the install Mozilla Maintenance Service. That service, like I said before has a mind of its own and will override your choices in the tools advanced options section. In a way they cancel each other out and the maintenance protocols are the primary configuration Firefox follows. So uncheck that maintenance service box before continuing the installation of your selected Firefox version. Once installed go to add-ons and configure the program however you want to. Don't forget the Tools 'advanced options' and uncheck the automatic updates of Firefox. Disable them all completely. Best not to leave anything to chance. Afterwards you are all set and don't have to worry about anything except the occasional annoying notices that you are using an older version of Firefox whenever you go to the Mozilla Support page. That notice you will just have to live with. I hope this information helps you out. One more thing, make sure to save a copy of the Firefox 30 and 38 or 39 program on your computer. You never know when you might need to reconfigure Firefox again.

It is not Firefox browser not allowing Norton toolbar but what Release version of Firefox that Norton supports with their toolbar.

The Firefox 40.0.3 was the last Norton supported with old way of Toolbar not Firefox 39.0 or 38.0.

Rather than freeze your Firefox on an insecure version, consider using the Extended Support Release (ESR). It is designed for companies that require a longer cycle time between feature changes, and currently is based on Firefox 38. It will get security updates over the next several months, but not get new features, so changes in Firefox 41 related to add-on compatibility will not kick in for quite a while.

Norton is likely to continue to support ESR until the new toolbar updates are completed, maybe next month. After that, I'm not sure what they will do because normally they only support a small range of versions.

If you decide to try it, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.3.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx41

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\Fx41

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Success?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

• \Fx41\Plugins
• \Fx41\browser\plugins

Norton saves your passwords when you have the toolbar option. You won't have to worry about losing information so long as you save on Norton Toolbar Vault storage. Also I spoke to Norton online support and they said that the toolbar is only compatible with Firefox 39 or earlier. So it would be pointless to update to Firefox 40 since the Norton support is useless in updating the toolbar compatibility for that version of Firefox. I say wait until Norton makes it toolbar compatible with Firefox 41 before upgrading to it. They will let you know when the IT Techs are ready to launch the new toolbar.

That so called Norton tech was going by old information if s/he claimed Firefox 39 was the newest Firefox release they supported with toolbar and not The Firefox 40.0.3.
