Why did text return next to the Home button?

For years I always used text-less navigation buttons with Firefox, except for the fact that the Home button was labeled with the text Home to the icon's right. And that was my preferred setup (i.e., with Home, and ONLY Home, having a label). IIRC, a with-text Home button was offered even when "Icon Only" was selected as the icon display mode in Customize.

But a year or two ago, maybe more, the text for Home went away, leaving the icon only. At the time I couldn't find a way to change it back to the way it had been, so I just gave up.

Well, after updating to Firefox 45, I noticed the text is back next to the Home button, which was a nice surprise, even though its prior disappearance was admittedly a minor issue.

Any idea why it's back? Might I have inadvertently changed some setting? Or is it actually a change in version 45? I thought maybe there might be some setting in my add-on Classic Theme Restorer that had inadvertently been changed, but I don't see any options regarding text for the Home button.

Firefox 28.0 and later versions don't have a built-in option for displaying any text labels for any Toolbar buttons. That text label for Home was added by 'something', more than likely the Classic Theme Restorer extension; but I don't recall ever seeing an option for just the "Home" button in CTR - text labels are either on or off entirely, as I recall seeing the few times I ever used CTR.

Interesting. I do see now that CTR has some button options. Also, I had forgotten that I also have the add-on Toolbar Buttons. (I don't see any other appearance-related add-ons.) BUT, when I disable both of these and restart, Home STILL has text. However, when I re-start in Firefox Safe Mode to disable ALL add-ons, Home does indeed lose the text.

So I guess the conclusion is that one of my other add-ons must somehow be bringing back the Home text...even though they aren't button or appearance-related, and the ONLY thing I changed was updating to Firefox 45??

While it's odd, I guess is isn't worth any additional investigation -- especially since I prefer it this way.

There may have been a minor coding change (perhaps an element related to a toolbar button) in Firefox 45.0 that 'triggered' the text to reappear upon update. Perhaps due to the Panorama feature being pulled from 45.

if that's what's going on, would have been a widespread result, or a limited number of people affected?

I have never heard of only the Home button having text being displayed. "All or nothing" as far a text labels with Firefox before Australis and with CTR after Australis. So I can't see that this would be widespread with changes possibly in Firefox 45.

There was definitely a point where -- probably via the Toolbar Buttons add-on -- it included both with-text and without-text Home choices, even when "without text" was chosen as the global setting. Home was the only (or one of very few) buttons where it offered that kind of override to the global choice. I like having the text because, for some reason, the Home icon doesn't stand out as much as others.

Just for the record, I have another computer with a Firefox setup that is almost identical to this one. And I just updated the second computer from Firefox 44 to 45, but the Home text did *not* return on that one. So this was indeed clearly a one-off situation, and not worth spending any time on (especially since I like it this way :)).
