Hi Oliver, could you make sure your settings in the History section aren't conflicting with your settings in the Cookies and Site Data section -- here's what to look for:
On the Options page, Privacy & Security panel, scroll down to the History section. The selector can say:
Firefox will: Remember history
This should work.
Firefox will: Never remember history
This invokes automatic private browsing. Firefox won't save cookies or even site-specific exceptions because it would give away some of your browsing habits. You'll need to switch to one of the other options.
Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
Let's check the details:
Make sure you do NOT have the box checked for "Always use private browsing mode" for the reasons described under the previous setting.
Make sure you do NOT have the box checked for "Clear history when Firefox closes". Alternately, if you do want to clear some types of history, click the Settings box to the right of this line. Make sure you do not clear Cookies here -- this function does not honor any exceptions -- and do not clear Site Preferences -- that would erase your exceptions.
Is that looking good so far?
