When I open a new tab, I get a screen that has pictures of my most current sites I have gone to. How do I have those removed so when I click on the "+" (for new tab) that it goes directly to "Mozilla Firefox Start Page"?

You can set the browser.newtab.url pref to about:home on the about:config page.
