After new installation, Firefox blanks out menu items when hovering the mouse over the item. Why?

I recently reformatted the hard drive on my wife's laptop and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate. After reinstalling the latest version of Firefox, now every data entry box on any webpage is blank (even while I am typing data into the box) and when I hover my mouse over any menu item (both at the top of the screen or via a right-click sub-menu), whatever item my mouse if hovered over, that item and one or two items on either side blank out completely until I move my mouse away from that item! What on earth is going on?!? I've tried uninstalling an reinstalling the program 3 times now with the same results. If I restart Firefox in SAFE mode, it works perfectly. I have also tried manually disabling every one of the add-ins and extensions, but that has no effect. Any ideas?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately, setting hardware acceleration to OFF had an even worse result. Once I restarted Firefox, all the fonts in the Firefox OS changed to some absolutely crazy font I've never seen before! The font looked like it was made up of lightning bolts and was was nearly impossible to read! After zooming in the screen to try to figure out how to read the menus in Firefox, I was finally able to decipher how to turn the hardware acceleration back on and all my fonts returned to normal. Unfortunately, the blanking of the menu items still exists. I'm back to square one again...
