hi, are you using firefox in permanent private browsing mode (aka "never remember history" in the options > privacy panel) or are you clearing site preferences whenever you close the browser?

I use neither private browsing, nor "clear history when Firefox closes".

What is interesting is this: When I add the exception, I can even close and re-open Firefox and the exception still works. It seems that I either a) lose the exception when rebooting the PC (Win 8.1) b) lose the exception when the date changes

I have not noticed any related issues, e.g. missing history. It's really only this security exception.

hm, this is strange as firefox won't be active while you reboot - so this is probably stemming from some third-party influence. do you use any external cleanup tools or sandboxing solutions that might interfere here?

Is there a root certificate available for this device or is it self signed or are there other problems with the certificate?

How do other browsers deal with this local device?

I use a few add-ons: Flashblock, Ghostery, Muter, NoSquint plus, Nuke anything enhanced, Open tabs next to current, SaveSession, SuperStop Most of those should only affect browsing itself. I'll have to try without add-ins active

The error is "SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN". I assume the certificate was issued for a specific domain (e.g. netgear.com), but I contact the router using a local IP address.

If you can't inspect the certificate via "Add Exception" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

• chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website with the https:// protocol prefix (https://xxx.xxx).

• retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
• click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate.
