Last version where bookmarks export is working
Hello,
I want to make an export of my bookmarks on my Windows device but in the current version (and from my historical backup sizes it looks like for a few months already!) the export file only shows the header and a little bit of text.
So I'd like to downgrade Firefox to the latest version where exporting bookmarks worked, as I need to import them in an Android app, as Firefox on Android can't export nor make a backup.
My question: What is the latest Firefox for Windows version where the bookmarks export worked?
Thanks!

Currently, the only way to get bookmarks out of Firefox for Android is via the Sync service. Perhaps someone needs to create a Sync client that can generate export files if you prefer not to show your desktop bookmarks in Firefox for Android?

Exporting bookmarks as an HTML file or a JSON backup should work in any recent Firefox version.
Does Firefox at least create a new JSON backup when changes were made to the bookmarks?
- Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Unfortunately that didn't do the trick. File size is 1 KB...
However, I found a webpage with a .json to .html convertor and that did the trick. It would be nice if at some point the embedded function would work again though.
Tnx...
You could check for error messages that exporting might generate to see whether they indicate some kind of file corruption issue. You can open the separate Browser Console window using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
- (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console
- (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+j
Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the window, then switch back over to the "Library" window and try the export, then check back in the console window. Did Firefox log any errors related to the export?

Thanks for the responses. I've decided to leave Firefox for what it is and move on, which the conversion tool allowed me to do. I'm very unhapppy about the way the mobile browser has been developed with weak functionality and terrible bookmark management, meaning that I'm completely locked in. As a result I will use an independent bookmark tool now, which means I don't have to stick with Firefox anymore. If they ever start focussing on keeping their customers I might return, but now, after using it as my favourite browser(s) for close to 15 years, I will move on :-(
Thanks again for the efforts,
drftr
