I've done everything I can think of - installed pop-up blocking software, blacklisted the website through notepad, turned pop-ups off via FF, checked my security via Gre ('perfect stealth score'), but STILL it pops up at the bottom of the page when online (every 10 minutes or so). If I click to close the window, it trys to open but can't (that's as far as I get), then I have to manually close that tab otherwise more come and it eventually crashes my FF browsing! The web address it tries to open is www.kaixin2010.cn - a window pop-up leading there has just popped up as I speak. It's in Chinese with explicit pics (I'm in China - using provided pc). Once or twice it tried to open IE when I was offline - but IE failed to open it as its on my hosts blacklist. I'm using Rising Antivirus - but after scans the problem persists - please help! Thank you. Below is the FF troubleshooting page...

You do have a lot of extensions installed.

Did you try a clean reinstall and a new profile?
If the malware scan doesn't fix it then you can give that a try.

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Try these scanners if you can access them:

HouseCall : http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/

Also, disable any nonessential add-ons under Tools > Add-ons (especially Themes and Extensions).

Thanks guys - I'm trying these as I type. Just d'loaded house call- no threats. Super A. Spyware didn't cure the prob either, but it is v. useful- deleted other stuff that may b prob elsewhere (",). The regularity of the pop up changed, but it still appears, and now there's another - totally in Chinese, doing the same thing. Now disabled all non-essential add-ons... if none of this works, I'll do the clean reinstall & let you know. Might take a while as work is also vying 4 my attention, hehe! Again, thanks v v v much for your helpful advice - I feel positive I can overcome this annoying pop-up / virus thing!

Thanks cor-el & jscher2000 - the problem has gone away now! I followed your advice closely, and also updated my Firefox to 3.6.10 - now no annoying pop-ups and finally a pleasurable experience with FF! Thank you both so much for your help, and generosity in giving up your free time to help!
