This is unusual. Normally on a new install Thunderbird will show a wizard to setup email.

Can you share a screenshot of the exact error message / initial box you see?

If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Thank you!

It looks like you are using macOS and permissions of your Thunderbird profile folder/home folder may be wrong.

Take a look at this article: https://appletoolbox.com/2016/07/fix-corrupt-user-accounts-macos/

Thanks Fabian, I'm using windows 7 home on this computer. Don't own a Mac. It's funny that I tried 3 different Versions of TB and all of them did the same thing. I had an old ver 32 install file and even tried that. Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Uh, sorry, I saw "Safari" in your browser string and my brain ignored the rest.

This still points to wrong permissions, take a look at this article for possible causes/solutions:
