When I first installed Firefox, if I wanted to download a file, i would simply click on the link and it would begin download straight away. However now, whenever I click on the link / button, it seems to spool in the browser before it downloads. Why does this happen? I run Win8

Is is possible that your anti-virus software is buffering the file for inspection before passing it to Firefox. So maybe check the real-tome scanning settings in your anti-virus software that might have changed with an update.

I have turned real time protection off (McAfee) but the issue remains
