Firefox crashes after selecting a file to send - STATUS_CALLBACK_RETURNED_LANG

more options

Hi. I'm trying to send a file for upload but I once I select the file, Firefox simply crashes. I've tried running in "Troubleshooting mode". Go to my website I want to send a file on, click "browse", choose file and... crash to desktop.

Checking the about:crashes page and uploading the crash (that works...) gives the error: STATUS_CALLBACK_RETURNED_LANG

I had issues with Firefox and Mapped Networked Drives in Windows before. So, I thought... save my stuff (no issues...) then reboot windows. Rebooting seems to fix a lot of stuff after all. But not here.

I reconnected my 3 drives (to the same NAS), opened Firefox, which takes a while to show a single page, go to sendspace.com and choose a file to upload from my NAS. Crash.

I disconnect my drives (all 3 of them), try send a file and... succesfully queued for upload.

What the heck? 99.5% of my files are on my NAS!

Here are the status reports to all the crash reports I sent to Mozilla: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/f90da30b-a25e-46ef-b4f3-c62830230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/89bd85e9-0136-463e-b215-50eac0230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/f568fda8-95e1-47a8-9605-c92b00230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/770ec31d-9c2f-4140-be5b-03d270230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/929b552f-f0f6-4277-892b-7d8fd0230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/05b5b342-2cbe-4f64-a746-4e8400230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/b3f60991-3f92-49a4-8812-2c9d00230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/6eae55d5-a4ae-419d-b97a-55a5d0230702 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/783ca68e-be22-4893-a55e-070e60230702

A reminder: Troubleshooting mode does NOT fix my issues.

Well, this is clearly something in Windows messing with Firefox. So, I decided to nuke my Windows 11 install and re-install it. I'll reply again to let you know what happens. I'm due for one anyway; this install was an upgrade from Win10.

Alright. I'm due for an update. I'd want somebody to find this if they encounter this very peculiar issue.

Unfortunately, wiping Windows and re-installing it was the only way to fix the issue as far as I'm aware. I don't have any issues since I did that. This is such an edge case because this is clearly something in Windows that fudged up.

Heck, for the info, before I formatted and re-installed Windows, In MS Edge, I could choose a file to send but it would add it to the website. It would just... close the "add file" window. In Chrome, it had no issues whatsoever. So, yeah.

Could be a problem with some third-party application injecting a DLL in Firefox. Maybe check the about:third-party page and disable injected DLLs.

You know, that's great to know for the next times. I didn't know about this page.

Right now, I have nvidia stuff, "CoreSync_x64.dll" by Adobe, "RContextMenu.dll" by PARAMOUNT SOFTWARE UK LIMITED and Directory Opus's dll.

I don't think this will change in the near future but you never know.

Thanks for the tip!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to the Firefox Support Forum. I understand that you are experiencing crashes in Firefox when selecting a file to send for upload. I'll do my best to assist you with this issue.

Based on your description, it seems that the crashes might be related to your mapped network drives or the file upload process. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Clear your browser cache: Go to the Firefox menu (three horizontal lines) > Options > Privacy & Security. Under the "Cookies and Site Data" section, click on "Clear Data" and make sure to select both "Cookies and Site Data" and "Cached Web Content." Then click "Clear."

Update Firefox: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Firefox. Go to the Firefox menu > Help > About Firefox. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Disable extensions: Sometimes, extensions can interfere with Firefox's normal functioning. Try disabling all your extensions and see if the issue persists. You can do this by going to the Firefox menu > Add-ons > Extensions, and then click on the "Disable" button next to each extension.

Refresh Firefox: This will reset Firefox to its default state while preserving essential data such as bookmarks and passwords. Go to the Firefox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information. In the "Give Firefox a tune-up" section, click on the "Refresh Firefox" button.

Create a new Firefox profile: A corrupt profile can also cause crashes. You can create a new profile to see if the issue occurs there. To create a new profile, close Firefox and open the Run dialog by pressing Windows Key + R. Then type "firefox.exe -P" (without quotes) and hit Enter. Click on the "Create Profile" button and follow the instructions to set up a new profile. Once created, select the new profile and click "Start Firefox."

If the issue still persists after trying these steps, please let me know, and I'll provide further assistance. Additionally, I encourage you to post your issue on the Firefox Support Forum, where other volunteers and Mozilla staff can also assist you.

Best regards, Suram Firefox Support Volunteer
