hate the latest beta release, it's borked a bunch of stuff, how do I go back to the prior one?
It's total mess on Mavericks (OSX), the UI's a joke, not to mention plain broken in a few ways... Any idea how to get it back to the way I had it configured, if not possible, then I'd like to go back to the prior beta release.
Thank-you.

Note this thread relates to a user that was using Firefox 29 in advance of its general Release whilst it was still in development and testing on the Beta Channel.
For now just move back to the Release channel and use Firefox 28. When you do that take care NOT to delete the Firefox profile, or use any options to remove personal settings.
- You may wish to back up your profile just to be sure
Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
Moving forward you will meet the same problem again shortly and may then wish to consider using an addon to try to change Firefox to be more like it was
I am making the assumption that what you are seeing is intended changes. There is a possibility that you have actually found something that is broken but you will need to give more details so that can be checked.

For example just a few things;
The close/minimise buttons are sitting transposed on top of the back button, if I want to use the latter, I'm very close to hitting the former!
Also it's completely messed-up my original layout of buttons at the top, one's even repeated, bizarrely. The one that's repeated also sits almost exactly in the same spot as the full-screen button, so if you want to use it, you risk hitting the wrong button!
In the "View -->Toolbars" menu it seems to have removed all toolbars except for the "Bookmarks" one!
I don't want the stuff I used to have in my add-ons bar down the bottom (only a few things) mixed-up with the buttons I have in my navigation bar at the top!
There's some sort of weird divot that runs along the entire border at the top, so it looks like there's another XUL/Chrome-based app sitting just behind FF, but it's just an illusion, FF is actually sitting flush against OS X's menu bar.
It all looks completely broken/horrible, I could go on, it's a bizarre mess... :-/
Cheers.

I've reluctantly returned to stable branch (FF28), this revamped UX is a complete mess on OSX, no matter whether it's: Beta, Aurora, or Nightly.
I hope they have their shit together for their stable release, & that it's much more palatable, else I'll have no choice but to use that add-on you linked to.
>.>
I have not really followed the Australis development too closely although I have been aware it has caused a lot of controversy. I have occasionally used it over several months as I had a development UX version available even before Australis reached Aurora and Beta channels
I would not expect any major change between what is on Beta and what becomes the final Release in six weeks time.
AFAIK there is no way to pin icons to the menubar, or to create an additional or addon menubar without resorting to use of addons.
Possibly some of your current addons or your current customisations are affecting what you see. It is possible to create additional Firefox profiles. That may be something to consider because you could then use a profile for day to day browsing and another profile to experiment with the customisations that are possible.
If you wished you could go even further and install multiple versions of Firefox that would allow you to use the Release for ordinary work whilst using the Beta version with its own profiles to experiment with the new look Australis and how that works and may be customised.
Should you try the Beta version with no addons and in safe mode and then find it really does have something that is broken. Rather than some feature that is intentionally removed and missing it should be reported. Initially report it here. If it is a genuine fault a bug will then need to be filed.
I personally do not use OS X so I even if I wished to help I am not able to assist with problems specifically related only to use of OS X.
I doubt you will wish to go through the trouble of installing multiple versions and using multiple profiles but I will make a follow up post in case you or some other reader of this thread is interested.
This is the help article on customisations.
- Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
- Note there is an option to see other versions of the article it has a selector this is a link to the OS x Fx29 version https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars#firefox:mac:fx29
OK more information on multiple versions and profiles
Using multiple profiles is not something we shout about on this forum. It is I think considered too advanced. It does have some dangers in that you may accidentally delete profiles for instance. It is however possible to manually backup profiles, and that may be a good precaution to take. I would also strongly suggest that you follow this good practice (At least until you are proficient enough to manually recreate and modify profiles)
- Normally use the locations suggested by Firefox
It is easier and safer- Always use an empty folder
Other contents disappear when the profile is removed - Never nest profiles within each other
As above, delete mother, lose child also
- Always use an empty folder
- Do not rename profiles
Confusing, profile names and folder names mismatch - Do not delete profiles
Just remove shortcuts if not in use. Delete the wrong one and you lose settings, passwords & bookmarks etc
Uses of multiple profiles include
- Testing, with clean or temporary profiles
- Different users, or different work type within the same OS account. That may include different bookmarks files &/or a different set of addons.
- Running multiple Firefox versions &/or multiple instances of Firefox simultaneously.
There are other methods of creating profiles but the best is probably to use Firefox's built-in profile manager.
Read up some of the articles, and if you want to try anything and are unsure post back.
- Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
- Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

I appreciate all the input, but I'm just going to stick with stable for now, & see how things go when stable 29 hits.
If things are okay then I'll revert to the Beta channel...
I suspect the last beta update foobared something in my profile, so I'll prolly still have the same retardedness when stable 29 hits.
If that does occur, the best approach will be to retrieve just my bookmarks, & then start w/a fresh profile, I've gotten used to this kinda thing with FF over the years.
Another thing that's irritating, when we get emails about responses to threads were subscribed to here, the emails provide 0 link to the latest posts, how useful.

I know we have been changing the emails lately. I do not normally use the service. I have just subscribed to this thread to see what happens. What is happening it emails a link to the thread start not to the thread latest post ?
Also thought I would add a list of relevant articles for Australis
No there's no link to the thread or the latest post... There's an email that contains the latest post, but no link back to the thread. If there is one it's def. not obvious, my email client's Thunderbird 28 (beta).
Thanks for all the links, they may come in handy later...
All the best.
Using this as an example there is a big blue button [Post a Reply] that links back to the thread and opens the thread for an answer.
In Firefox desktop this in a position where I can see the last post. I am viewing the emails as html webmail in Firefox. Screenshot attached
Nup, don't get the in TB for OSX, great so Mozilla doesn't even support their own client properly... >.>

I wonder if it is Thunderbird or a Mac that is the problem. This forum now deals with Thunderbird support, and we are certainly interested in problems with our revised HTML email messages.
I suggest you ask a new question about that I am sure it will be sorted out.
Post back here once you have done so I will follow it and bring it to the attention of staff or developers if need be.
It may be interesting to discover what messages are sent regarding Thunderbird questions from the forum, they will be compatible with Tbird I hope.
Some of this may be work in progress, because the integration of Tbird support is new as is the change in emails.
No time sorry, this thread's bookmarked for later (if I bump into probs with FF stable 29), as email's are pretty useless.

Note that there can be say six to twelve beta builds for a Release and the first one to three can sometimes have some issues. The current is 29.0b1

Well, as I feared it's still a joke, so pissed-off. I saw an update & forgot that it would include a major UX overhaul, wish I hadn't applied it. Straight onto Classic Theme Restorer & away from this steaming pile.

How do we get the bookmark star that normally lives in the address-bar back? Grrr....
Thanks.
- update*
Nvm I found an option to restore it in CTR...

WTF do I get ABP & NoScript showing up in the add-ons toolbar again? (& other add-ons). I've got the add-ons toolbar there, but I can't see any way to get them freaking back there!?! I've tried the customise tool, but it's retarded...
Thank-you.
Modifié le
Anyone? Really need it back on the add-on toolbar, only easy way to manage noscript!
TY.
You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to restore some functionality that was lost with the arrival of the Australis style in Firefox 29.

NoScript Icon
Note the NoScript icon with an unmodified Firefox 29 may be placed on any of the existing toolbars, or in the newbutton's menu. The NoScript menu an options is also available from right click on any webpage.
The only glitch I notice is that a couple of its icons look blurry if not used and remaining held in the customisation area.
