On EVERY website i go to I get pop up ads or a new smaller page pops up and says "about blank" in the address field. They make the websites look different like they have to make room for ads. Also sometimes there is a hidden link that when I click on something it takes my to a whole other website.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Not only do I have this problem, but I get one or more pop-up ads in the four corners of of the page. In addition, I get ads in new windows that pop up just because I clink on a link. this does not happen in Chrome or IE. I have deleted all plug-ins and extensions that could produce these ads.

And nothing else that cor-el recommended to the "owner" of this thread worked for you?

I have this problem as well with Firefox, but do NOT have it with IE, so I don't think it is malware. I have Norton 360 if this helps.
