For about a month now, Firefox (18.0.2) has been randomly logging me out of sites that I WANT to remember me (e.g. Facebook, Amazon, sites with forums I visit daily for work). It is driving me bonkers and it did NOT used to do this.

It does seem more likely to log me out of these sites when I have watched a Flash video. Help please?

Firefox 18.0.2 on a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Chosen solution

The problem of getting logged out of sites has been fixed after the update to Firefox 19.

I had given up and resigned myself to having to log in several times a day. I tried the sqlite file removal, but it did not help at all.

Please understand the difference as to where I was having to log in. Usually if you tick a box on Facebook or web forums that says "remember me, " and you exit your browser and go back, it indeed remembers you without having to log in again. This is NOT the same as signing in to your account to change settings, etc.

Thanks for your help, but it looks like there was something in version FF18 that was causing this for me.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Site Preferences" and the "Cookies" as this doesn't take exceptions into account, but removes all specified data.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

cor-el, I have already checked your suggested options. I have not changed any settings in options since this problem began. Cookies are allowed, I have never run in Private browsing mode, I do not clear Site Preferences when I clear recent history, etc.

My best guess is the problem started with the last update installation of Adobe Flash, Shockwave or Adobe Reader. Seems there was someone else on this forum with a similar problem and he fixed it by reverting back to an earlier version of Flash. I cannot find this thread now.

Does anyone remember reading anything here about a conflict with current version of Flash player and sites that use Flash-based cookies for "remember me"?

Cookies stored in Flash local storage are hardly used to remember the login status.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Also make sure that security or cleanup software isn't deleting the cookies.
