I have set up two email addresses with their own folders including Inbox, Sent Mail etc. Even though my incoming mails are correctly downloaded to the individual Inboxes, within Local Folders there is another 'global' Inbox which is not needed. How can I remove this box? As best I can determine I have not 'asked' for global ... my preference is individual email accounts (above Local Folders section) from which I copy to a specific local folder/delete at Inbox if I need to retain an email.

The Tbird version is current and just installed.

Well, I have located the reason why I had an additional 'Global Inbox' in Local Folders. Seems this particular Gmail account web settings had been changed to include POP.

Corrected, uninstalled Thunderbird and its Profile. Reinstalled, set up account and the Local Folders now just include the standard Deleted & Outbox folders.

Apologies for wasting your time but it has helped my understanding. Many thanks.

Thanks for reply. I had attempted to understand this but I cannot 'work out' how I can have individual account folders above Local Folders without also the global Inbox within Local Folders. The silly bit is that I set my own Tbird up like this some years ago but can't seem to acheive the same layout on my partners pc!

I don't have any POP accounts, so I can't tell you any more than what's in the article:

To set the account not to use the Global Inbox, select either "Inbox for this server's account" or "Inbox for different account" and click "OK".

Thanks for trying. Strangely, neither do I have POP accounts set up. A reinstall might be the solution. Strange one ...

you have three accounts in Thunderbird. The two you have configured and the"special" account local folders. You can not delete the local folder account, so I suggest you either use it for one of the accounts or get used to it being there empty.

Thanks Matt. Yes, I understand this and use the Local Folders extensively to retain emails locally where needed ... deleted then from the email account/s.

My Tbird has been in use for some years and in Local Folders, apart from my special folders, are included Trash & Outbox. However within the new pc set up Local Folders include Inbox, Deleted (Trash), Outbox, Pending. Only Trash (for Local Folders deletions) and Outbox (maybe) are needed. I don't want Local Folders to include a combined Inbox since each email account has its own.

I have compared the Settings between the two Tbird installations and they appear to be the same ... both have the same email providers (eg Gmail & Outlook.com) on IMAP settings so it is easy to compare. But I must be missing some setting ... Global has not been selected. Both installations are the latest release.

Hope this all makes sense.

When your accounts are IMAP there is no Global Inbox. The Inbox folder present in Local Folders is created automatically, but it will never receive any mail from your IMAP accounts. Just leave it alone, it doesn't hurt. In any case, I don't understand your problem.
