I have followed prescribed methods shown in previous forum responses. I have done the mozilla to safe mode still same problem I have done the mozilla to reset and still nothing. I have done the unpopulate the hardware acceleration in the options and still nothing. I have checked plugins and still stays the same. Basically I have performed every suggestion mentioned and still mozilla does not allow my enter key to work in the address bar or the search engine boxes. One day mozilla was working fine than it stopped working the enter button in the address bar. I like Mozilla but I will go to Chrome if I can not get anywhere with this issue. I even reinstalled mozilla and still same thing.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I had done this before but I did all of this again. Still same thing happening.

I really like Mozilla but not being able to enter things is a major hassle. Please give me something that will work?

Thank you

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I did the malware checks and still no improvement. I would do the clipboard idea of Fred's but it says to input about:support than hit enter. That is the issue "enter" is not working. please advise.

Thank you for this advice. But still nothing. I have never seen anything like it. I cannot get anything to go. Even with paste and go it does nothing. In the past reinstalling or other methods seemed to work but even at it's base default settings...nothing. It does not do it in any other browser (IE and Chrome). This has to be a browser issue, but what else can I try?

Something is up. Did you run all the mal-ware programs above?

Ok I hve been away but did the reset. Still does nothing in the search engine boxes or address bar. literally does not take you anywhere site wise. This makes no sense. One minute the browser works and now it doesn't. No located bugs using the list you gave me to run, did resets and updated. I have even made every plug-in read as "ask to activate." Chrome is working and IE, so why did Mozilla decide to go kaput?

Okay, lets try something else.

  • 1

Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

  • 2 Open your programs folder. Locate anything named Firefox or Mozilla

and rename it by adding .old to its name

  • 3 After, reboot the computer. Now run the full installer.
  • 4 If you still have problems, create a new user profile, then try again.
