You can recover your password by using the recovery email or Phone Number you have given at the time of creating Gmail account. You may be asked some questions try to answer at your best and if failed this way then try contacting Gmail support team.
I can't use the number it was set up on because that number no longer exists.
I've contacted the support team at Google and they aren't much help
