All of a sudden today, Thunderbird is responding very slowly to key strokes. It can take 30 seconds for a right click context menu to appear. It can take 20 seconds for typing to show up in a message. This is not an anti-virus problem, because it occurs even while trying to edit or enter an email message.

While FireFox is not affected, Notepad also has performance problems. A reboot did not fix things. CPU is at 3% and memory is at 23%. Windows 10.

I've been using the Everything search engine for many years. Today, all of a sudden, it appears that Everything is interfering with many programs that do text entry (NotePad, OpenSCAD, ThunderBird). So long as I do not run Everything, things seem to be fine. Very puzzling. I don't know of any event that occurred today that would explain the change in behavior.

So, problem solved, and it had nothing to do with ThunderBird.
