Long-time Thunderbird user, on Windows 10. Today I tried moving my default (and only) Thunderbird profile to a new location, specifically on a VeraCrypt mounted volume (W:). The VeraCrypt file itself is on a USB drive (G:).

I copied the profile folder to its new location, and edited profiles.ini like this: [Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=0 Path=W:\emails\q6ezhjfw.default Default=1

Thunderbird is able to start and shows my emails. I can read them. The problem is that when I try replying to an email, or composing a new email, the compose window appears and then Thunderbird immediately crashes (after one second or so), even if I don't interact with it at all.

Here are three related crash reports: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/2c6a354b-5f26-4c4d-804e-14c7f0221024 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/d0611905-1c0f-4166-97f1-9c9c60221024 https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/7d2fd384-3665-4430-b0e3-f00740221024

Is there something I can do to avoid that?

For now I've moved back to the original profile location (in AppData).

This seems to be related to a spell-check dictionary:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1777394

It appears to be fixed in Firefox 106, but I don't know when it will be fixed for TB 102. See if the crash occurs while temporarily disabling the French dictionary.

Yes, that seems to do the trick. I was able to send an email and reply to it. Thanks for your help! I'll try to keep using it that way and see if I find other issues. Too bad that means no French autocorrect (I do most of my emails in French), but I think I can live with that.

I'm not familiar with Mozilla's tracking system. Is there a way for me to check on the status of this issue for Thunderbird specifically?

I've added a comment to the bug report, which might prompt a response regarding a TB update.
