Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Tried all of the suggestions and still have the problem. Now considering dumping Firefox as it is too problematic.

Do you feel obligated to allow pay-per-click advertising to be calculated and paid to the owners of the sites your visit? That's a value judgement, and I can certainly understand. But when those advertising schemes cause you inconvenience, due to poor behavior or bandwidth gobbling, you have the right to block them.

If you use NoScript, and learn to view websites without all the 80% clutter, you will be happier, and safer. Yes, there is a learning curve, it is not effortless. Allow only a choice few sites you regularly visit to have permanent permission, give all others temporary permission, one at a time until you learn what they are, and leave the google ads and doubleclicks NEVER having permission. You will have a bar containing the exclusions showing along the bottom, but you will work safer and faster! No other browser will keep you as safe, not even close. I'm a former IE user who found this much better!
