hi, this is just a guess, but in case you have nvidia's network access manager or forceware network manager software installed, please go into your system control panel and uninstall it (or go there and have look if it is listed there, if you're unsure about this).

I have the nividia's control panel but not specifically an access manager and this has never been an issue before in any other updates and since I rolled back I don't have the problem. I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I'm wondering if I should just not update as firefox works well up until I tried the update. Thanks for your response and sorry about the delay this is the first time I've been on this forum and I'm still uncertain of how to access the thread if it wasn't for the fact that my query was so new I probably wouldn't have been able to find it so my apologies ahead of time if I don't respond in the future, please know I would most likely be lost in the search... lol

can you type about:crashes into the firefox address bar? if you have a crash starting with "bp-", please copy/paste its ID here into a reply on the forum...

Thanks... I didn't get a crash on the 43.0.2 update it just didn't work. You could open as many new tabs as you wished and type like a mad fool into the address bar of each and every one or try to access a bookmark in any of them but it would neither go to the address you typed in manually nor would it load the bookmark or go to it and the home tab did squat. So I rolled back and plan on ignoring that update. All the updates in the past worked fin it's just this one that doesn't.

to further diagnose this issue i would be interested in the list of dll-modules, that are hooking into your firefox browser (this can be done by inspecting a crash report from your machine). did you take a look into about:crashes? aren't there any crashes? if not, then please produce a crash report "manually":

1. go to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/crash-me-now-simple and install the addon
2. go into the firefox menu > customize and drag & drop the "crash me" button into the menu: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
3. open the menu and click on the newly placed "crash me" button - your browser will close
4. enter about:crashes into the url bar and copy the id number of the produced crash report. then paste it here into the forum.
5. afterwards you could uninstall the addon again from the menu > addons > extensions

thanks a lot! yes this shows that you have a nvlsp.dll file present on your system that is hooking into firefox (and that would be part of nvidia's network access manager or forceware network manager).

the background to this story is that it was the major source of startup crashes in firefox 43.0 & 43.0.1 (which apparently didn't affect you), so this file was blocklisted in firefox 43.0.2 which now causes this other undesirable effect of connections unable to be established...

i think the best option would be to remove this software from your device. can you please double-check that it isn't showing up in the software section of the system control panel & if it really doesn't list all programs shown there starting with "NVIDIA"...

I just did a google search to find out what it is and if it can be deleted but it says in three articles I read that it is essential to my computer using the graphics card and that I can not delete it. perhaps that means I will have to do without the update or go to a different browser?

All that is listed in my control panel under that is the Nividia control panel there isn't a separate or additional program listed for it v/v access or network manager or any other name... just the one and google says I need it?

hi, in the screenshot you are showing i was referring to the list you get when you click on "program and features" & if the programs are appearing there (sorry for being unclear, but i use a different language on my system , so i wasn't sure about the correct labels)

I also updated to 43.0.2 & no connections were being made. I also have NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager installed (with NVIDIA Graphics Driver 341.81)

I have spent well over and hour trying troubleshoot the problem. I have some major frustrations with what I am reading in this feed.

To get the 43.0.2 update to work I have to uninstall a graphics driver component that causes no other problems with any other part of my Windows installation & not knowing how uninstalling the component will affect other systems.

Mozilla pushes automatic updates and knowing that they were disabling all NVIDIA users without a prior notice. NVIDIA is built into my HP motherboard.

 I have never had an issue with an update & going from x.0.1 to x.0.2 appears to be a minor update with a major problem.

Mozilla what were you thinking? It took me a long time to save my profile & rollback to 43.0.1 & without FF-sync, I would have lost a lot more time. Most people affected by this I am sure would not know how to do this. I recently came back to Firefox after the 64-bit version was released (from) Cyberfox, but FF-43 is plagued with problems. On pages that worked fine in Cyberfox-42, now causes unexplained stalls and the browser goes unresponsive. I have always loved FF for its customization, but that is getting replaced with frustration.

RF2112 if you scroll back through the last few of my postings and Phillipp's replies you will see the trouble I had... I stress HAD... when I went to Start/Control Panel/Programs and Features and scrolled down I found much more that NIVIDIA had installed than just the Drivers... there was the program addition he had told me about ... "nvidia forceware network access manager" that is what I uninstalled and so far Firefox updated without issue and is working fine and everything else seems to as well. I've a restoration point handy in case there are issues but so far there have been none after an restart. I'm not an expert but it seem to work for me. I'd suggest you make a restoration point... uninstall the offending party... update firefox and do a restart. If you have any issues even worst case you can do a restart in safe mode if needed and roll back to the restoration point you made prior to starting this. Hope it works for you as well as it seems to have worked for me... thanks to Phillipp

Thanks Bryan, I understand that "nvidia forceware network access manager" is apparently the conflict. My issue (or complaint -- maybe in the wrong forum) are 1) This is a hardware driver & used by a large number of users as NVIDIA hardware is built-in to a lot of motherboards. 2) If this a driver, I am uncomfortable uninstalling it until I know what other systems are affected 3) Mozilla quietly installs this as a "minor update" knowing that a large number of users will suddenly be unable to connect to the internet, Most newer PCs either have NVIDIA, ATI, or Intel graphic/control boards embedded in them; so this is not just a handful of users. I don't know if the "forceware" driver goes with a network controller, or was installed with the last graphics update. But randomly uninstalling drivers is usually a bad idea.

Seriously ... Have you ever heard of software (in which the developer does not even tell you) that you will have to remove other software in order to continue using ours?

hi RF2112, the network access manager is not a driver but a firewall by nvidia. most windows operating systems already contain a built-in firewall that could protect you as well - so again: for a quick fix, i'd recommend uninstalling that piece of software. in addition, this was not how it was planned - a component of the network access manager was blocklisted in 43.0.2 because it was causing a widespread startup crash in firefox 43 builds. loss of connectivity for some users was an unforeseen by-effect & this change is going to be reverted again.

Well that sounds more promising that Mozilla just didn't expect users to uninstall an unrelated piece of software just to accommodate their update.

On the subject of what the service actually does .. If I thought it was just a firewall, I would be more likely to remove it. NVIDIA is notorious for bloatware in their driver updates (like how many people actually use 3D Vision goggles with their PC). However, one of the top Google searches makes it sound more like a multimedia interface than a firewall component. (Although this sounds like it was a cut/paste from NVIDIA rather than something that has actually been researched)
