I have created a system in the application Profound UI. Users will access via the web. I have found that the application runs much better in Mozilla. Most of the users will have Windows Explorer as their default browser and I can't change that. All users will have Mozilla installed on their computers. I want to open a specific URL in Mozilla. I also want to create a desktop shortcut that will do this. Can you help?

You can make a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut or modify the existing shortcut and add the URL of that site to the target field via the right-click context menu > Properties.

---Default Browser can be anything you want it to be. It can even be a browser that you yourself scripted/programmed and installed. Close IE if you have it open. Open your Control Panel and go to Internet Options, then select the Programs tab. Untic the box before "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser." and click Apply, then Okay out of Internet Options.

---Open FF. Now go to Tools | Options | Advanced (tab) and under the last row, "System Defaults" tic "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup" and then click the "Check Now" (button) and make it default.

---If you cannot change it, then you're being forced into a loop that starts in the file handling portion of your operating system, which is either an M$ update that is forcing you to be unable to change the browser, an error on your HD or in your OS, or even an infection that diddled with your settings. My best advice there would be to go to Start | Run and type sfc /scannow to have all critical files checked that they haven't been damaged. If a damaged file is found, it will prompt your for the OS CD or for the folder the original files were stored when the OS was installed. either way you can insert the Windows XP Installation disc and direct it to the folder (normally i386). You will have to install all Windows updates, but your programs and saved files will be unchanged. This is the first step to repairing Windows... which is where your problem looks to be...

... IF you cannot chose your default browser using the steps I

have explained in the first & second paragraph of this reply.

Cor-el,

Thank you for your reply. I did as you suggested, but when I pasted the url - http://11.103.41.99:8080/profoundui/start, I got the error message, "The name 'http://11.103.41.99:8080/profoundui/start' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct." Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.
