I close out Firefox then when I try to reopen it, I get a message that it is still running. I've had so many bugs with Firefox that I'm removing it and going back to IE.

The problems I've had with Firefox are numerous. It keeps running in the background and won't reopen. I have to go to the task manager and close it manually. Now, it won't load my iGoogle homepage. I was loading fine, earlier but now won't. My other browsers work fine. There are just too many bugs here.

Firefox 3.5.3 is no longer supported. The secure version in the 3.5 series which is 3.5.19 will also fall by the wayside when Firefox 5.0 is released on June 21.

If you want to update to the secure version prior to the current one (4.0.1) which is 3.6.17, then we'll do our best to help you with your problems.

To ensure a clean installation, please do the following.

  1. Go to Download Firefox v3.6.17 and download it to the desktop.

  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

I'm not running an older version of Firefox. I'm running the most current version, 4.0.1. If the most current version of Firefox doesn't work why would I want to use the one coming out?

This is your user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) FBSMTWB

That 3.5.3 I've highlighted above tells us which version you were using when you posted the problem on this forum.

Did you update after posting this issue?

I installed the 4.0.1 version some time ago. I've been running it for sometime. When I click about Firefox now, it shows I'm running 4.0.1.

OK, fair enough.

Please try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

OK, when I get a chance I'll do that. My list of programs installed shows 4.0.1. I've had ongoing problems with it, several types.

For more information see Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems, under 4. Restart Firefox in Safe Mode

I've had ongoing problems and in order to use a browser, I shouldn't have to go through all this. I have no problems with Chrome or IE. I like the features of Firefox but if it's this complicated it's not very workable for me, and I'm sure many others. I haven't had these problems in the past like this with other versions.
