Why cannot I download any software, beyond 1,056 KB?

No matter what free software I try to download, each stops at 1,056 KB. I have turned off all plugins, cleared cache, rebooted, but still get the same result. Also, the latest version of Adobe Reader will not open or download any PDF doc, but will show those already on my HD.

I uninstalled the new version of Adobe Reader and installed the older 7.0 version and than one works just fine.

I tried to download the same softwares with my old IE browser (V 6.90.2900) and it downloads them just fine, but FF (3.6.12) still shuts off each download at 1,056 KB.

It is possible that your ani-virus software is interfering and decides to start scanning the file before the download has finished and by doing that is locking the file.

You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think that was it, since after being defeated several times, I totally uninstalled my AVG anti-virus, so that there wasn't any interference with any anti-virus software at all.

In addition to that 1,056 limitation being present in all attempts to download ANY free software (including Piraform Ccleaner) with FireFox, I found that such a defect was NOT present in my old (6.90.2900) version of Internet Explorer browser.

I was able to use it to download Mircrosoft's security system, so that I am now protected with that brand of antivirus.

I do have Scotty on Partrol, but he always asks me if I approve or not of a new program being installed. He never attempts to interfere with a download before I do the install. If I approve, it installs just fine.

And again, the download worked fine with IE, but still is limited by the 1,056 KBs, when I try to do it with FF.

Also, I had the problem of Adobe Reader (ver 9) not being able to display or download any PDF doc on the Internet, thru FF, but the older version of AR 7.0 does work. My suspicion is that additional problem is related to the first one, which is why I have mentioned it.

Again, thanks for your reply. Looks like this one is going to be a real head scratcher...
