How do I configure "Sort by date" for actual chronological order.

Currently,when I do "Sort by date" 6/5/2013 will proceed 7/5/2014. I would like to have it sort in the correct order. That would be;Sort as Year, Month, Day. But, displayed as Month, Day, Year.

Please disregard this question. Apparently, my dyslexia has struck again. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
