Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Unfortunately, these did not solve my problem. I am not aware of any malware installed, and I scanned for it. Further, I do not even have any extensions installed. All I did was visit Yahoo.com, and I began to have hte problem of Yahoo hijacking my home page. It did not occur after an installation of any manual kind. Resetting the home page via Options does not work for long either, as you can see it being reset in OPtoins about every minute.

Thanks for your help. Any other ideas? Can we sue Yahoo for this?

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove Yahoo Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

After the problem is fixed, Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 41.0.2 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename just the current program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does Firefox work more normally?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

• \OldFirefox\Plugins
• \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Otherwise, there's no reason to keep the old folder except research/curiosity.

Thanks for yoru help. There is not malware discovered by cor-el. I did uninstall and reinstall Firefox, and I had ot do it mroe than once, since if Yahoo pdated hte home page before it reinstalled, it would open in Yahoo, and "reinfect" Firefox with whatever is resetting the home page to Firefox. WHen I finally succeeded in getting Frirefox installed before Yahoo updated the hoem page, I was finally able to get rid of the problem.

Moral of hte story - Don't visit Yahoo unless you wnat to have Yahoo as your home page. SOme one with $$$ neeeds to sue Yahoo for this activity.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Did you delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the full Firefox installer?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile.
