I have tried to change the Font to Ariel and the Type Size to 14. I see that such has registered in the Preferences. However, when I type an e-mail the type size is so small that it's difficult for me to read. I have to highlight the typed segment and request that the size be 14. Why shouldn't it automatically be in 14? I have tried rebooting after confirming what I would like in Preferences, but to no avail.

Upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check

Thank you for suggesting I upgrade to Firefox 8, however, that did not resolve the problem of saving a desired Type size. Example: I go into Firefox Preferences and set up the default font to be Ariel, size 14. I return to AOL.mail to compose a message and the type size is 10. If I scan the selected text and change the size to 14, that works. When I continue to type, the size reverts to 10. I never used to have this problem. Is it perhaps related to AOL?

Font size changes in Options/Preferences only apply to the default Western encoding.

Isn't there a toolbar above the text area where you compose a message to select the font size?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
