After much searching and reading "Why can't I sync my passwords?", I still have the same problem. I've gone through and deleted the master password and still can't save passwords. I can't even get them to sync from the XP machine that I replaced. I REALLY need help fixing this, have to go back to SplashID on PC to get username and password for every site I want to use is a mega hassle. I'm using Firefox 30.0 if that helps. Storing passwords was no problem on the XP machine. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

The second article explained how to resolve the issue. I had " Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History" selected. Once I deselected "Never Remember History" I again was asked to save passwords.

Thank you very much for your help.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox. Rename the key3.db and signons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action. You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost. If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed. Otherwise you can rename the files to their previous names (signons.sqlite and key3.db).

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
