thunderbird stuck in loop. Can't stop in task manager.
links wouldn't open in thunderbird. I followed the instructions in this link: http://www.ghacks.net/2013/01/20/fix-for-thunderbird-not-opening-links/. After setting the 3 values to TRUE I exited and restarted thunderbird. I then clicked on a link in an email message and the LAUNCH APPLICATION box appeared. I accidently entered 'thunderbird' instead of 'firefox'. When I clicked on the link in the email message it goes into some loop where the hourglass icon flashes constantly. I couldn't get back to the LAUNCH APPLICATION window to change it. I then deleted the Thunderbird folder in program files and reinstalled thunderbird OK. All works fine until I click on a link in a message. It then goes into the loop and I have to reboot. Is there something in the registry that I can change to fix this? Thanks for any help you may can offer. Regards, Geoff Wight

Go to Tools menu (alt+T) > options > Attachments and delete any references to Thunderbird.
Change the prefs to their default values. per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Hyperlinks-in-Messages-Not-Working#w_check-for-an-incorrect-preference then you might read all of the article as the incorrect pref is usually only an issue after the Thunderbrowse add-on has been used.

After setting the 3 values to TRUE
Why don't you change the prefs you modified back to the default values?
Thanks for the reply! I did reset the prefs but that didn't help. The window where I typed in Thunderbird.exe instead of Firefox only appeared after clicking on a link. So after resetting prefs, I then clicked on a link to get the 'Launch Application" window again but it immediately goes into the loop and no window appears. I like Thunderbird so would like to fix this. Geoff

Thank you Mark! That fixed my problem and Thunderbird will now allow links to open in Firefox.
