Certificate issue/error message after Firefox update?

more options

After latest update to 90.0.2 I'm no longer able to log in to an internal corporate website. This has worked fine before. Accessing the same site with Chrome or Edge still works fine but no longer with Firefox.

Error message: SSL_ERROR_CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN_ALERT

I have previously struggled with Certificate with Firefox but after enabled security.enterprise_roots.enabled in Config it has worked fine until now.

So what has changed this time and how to bypass? Obviously the cert/website works fine with other browsers.

Thanks Henrik

Hi Henrik, is it possible this refers to a "personal certificate" installed on Windows (or in Firefox) that the site requires for you to authenticate to the site?

I don't know whether the Enterprise Roots setting handles those or whether Firefox needs you to import them manually.

To see what personal certificates are currently in Firefox's built-in certificate store, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type cert and Firefox should filter to the "View Certificates" button, which you can click.

Click the "Your Certificates" tab (first tab) to see what Firefox knows about. Hopefully this matches the equivalent list in other browsers (not sure what that looks like in Chrome/Edge).

Thanks jscher for the reply!

Yes it is a personal certificate and it was showing up under "your certificates". But today for some reason it works again. Maybe a server side problem but strange it worked with the other browsers.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.
