Hi - we are having problems with the Prohibited Cycle message on our Firefox email account and I see someone has said they reset Firefox to fix the problem but am nervous that if we do reset Firefox we could lose our favourites (bookmarks). Can you please help us with this problem? Thank you.

hi Jalyn, a reset won't affect your bookmarks (and in any case, there will be a backup created on your desktop labeld "old firefox data"). for details please see Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

What about all my saved emails, will I lose any of these when I do a firefox reset ? And all my stored folders with many emails, and information I need to keep... Cyrus

Firefox doesn't do email and doesn't store email messages, it's strictly a web browser.

If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". Yoiu won't lose anything that's not in Firefox when doing a Firefox reset..

Firefox is a nightmare to use since it automatically updated 2 days ago.. I could not even access it. I had to do a system restore on my computer to 3 days ago, and now I can use it, but it is sooo slow. ANd the mouse is half the time not being responded to. I don't have this with IE, or off line using my computer, everything works normal.. just on firefox now

I used firefox for 2 yrs with no problems, until this recent update

I will do a reset, and hope this fixes it, otherwise I will uninstall it, because its no use to me like it is.. ALso the blue circle icon spins for 3-5 mins when doing a search.. and I have to refresh the page a few times before it moves to open a different email, etc. Let me know your thoughts.. And I saw on the help forum , there are over 100 people in the last 2 weeks complaining of this same problem, since this last update.... My 2 friends have this now also since the new updates were installed... and one can't do a system restore, luckily I created one the day before my firefox update.. so frustrated with this. I would have been better off to have kept my old firefox, and had checked no updates,, Cyrus
