How do I recover all my all my lost accounts and folders? (60.9.0)
Version 60.9.0 (32-bit) My PC was "hibernated" over the week-end (Windows 10) and when I opened Thunderbird this morning no folders or mail boxes where present. I was presented with a dialogue to set up a calender when Thunderbird loaded, and, after completing this, the only mailbox available was the one I had designated for access to the calender.
How do I recover everything please? Why was I presented with the calender dialaogue when TB loaded?

Something seemed to effect the 'prefs.js' file from hibernation as Matt mentioned it's small size and the update added some complexity and maybe you copied some files into wrong location in attempt to get the profile working. No worries, all the necessary data was still intact, even if not all singing from the same hymn sheet. Basically, prefs.js had not a lot of knowledge about your pop and Local Folders which were still intact. As Local Folders could not be found, it seems Thunderbird by default created a new one to use Local Folders-1, hence why that appeared empty.
At some point everything got confused.
About: profiles was convinced you were using the default profile, but the 'profiles.ini' was convinced you should be using Copy which had files in wrong places. Hence Thunderbird was up a monkey tree on vacation!
You were most helpful in supplying all the vital information on location of files and content of profiles.ini etc which really helped to understand what was going on, what needed to moved moved and edited. Once everything was in place Thunderbird understood what profile to use, it was then just a matter of hooking everything up and getting the 'prefs.js' file with mail account info to know you really did have mail accounts and where they were lurking, so you could get visual access to all your accounts and their emails.
I'm just glad we could get you up and running again.

check your Thunderbird version. Help menu > troubleshooting information.
Are you still on V60? Click the show update history button. Was there an update over the weekend?

Yes still on V60.9 and no updates over the week-end. Last update 10/09/19.

Well that is one probably cause removed. Is your account IMAP? if so, reboot and restart Thunderbird and see if you are prompted for more than a password. What I have seen in the past is that windows hibernation can see the network card (NIC) shut down to conserve power. Unfortunately windows does not place itself into a not connected state. Thunderbird tries to access the network and can not contact the server so the failed sync results in the local deletion of all mail and will see connections to calendars also lost as there is in reality no network.
A reboot should allow mail to resynchronize from the server and your calendar to reconnect.
Post recovery check the windows hibernation setting so wake on LAN is selected and turn off the power savings from turning off the NIC

Hi Matt,
I have copied the profile to a new location and use the "new" profile when starting TB. However, TB is still trying to activate the calender. Is there something now wrong with the original profile?
"C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\kr1y5s7p.default"
I have attached a couple of screen shots. If I cancel the 1st, the second appears.

In "safe mode" TB starts, without the calender prompts but only has the mailbox set up when I the calender dialogue started this A.M. Everything else has disappeared.

Hi Matt,
FYI the "sent" folder seems to still contain all mail that has not been filed to local folders.
I inadvertantly set up this version of andy.callen@gmx.co.uk as an IMAP mailbox rather than POP3.
Other than the copy taken after the problem manifested itself, I do not have another security copy of the default profile.
The copy being used when loading is an exact copy for the default profile.

Evidence that the mailboxes and local folders are still present,

help menu > troubleshooting information. Select about profiles in the bottom of the Application Basics (last entry) Select you previous profile in the list and make it the default. Only by clicking the remove button can you loose data in that window, making a wrong selection as a profile just means you need to return later to change it again.
BTW I have been sleeping, it was night in Australia.
