The very top of the screen has rounded blotches in several different colors that overlays the menu bar, interfering with reading the menu bar (file, edit, view, etc). My other computer does not have this problem. In fact, I prefer a single background color that contrasts well with the text. I don't like "fancy."

You may have installed a persona.
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I discovered that the problem was not FireFox. MS Windows 7 allows the edges of windows to be made transparent, so icons on my desktop was showing thru at the edges interfering with the writing on top of the FireFox screen. I was able in Windows 7 to make the window edges opaque.
